Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity in the Mass Spectrometry Center within Regulatory Sciences for a Mass Spectrometry Research Scientist. The selected candidate will lead research projects focusing on the application of mass spectrometry to aid in the identification of metabolites in crop health and biologicals products.
This position is located in Indianapolis, IN.
What You’ll Do:
The successful candidate will serve as the lead scientist to investigate and implement mass spectrometry approaches to aid in metabolite identification and characterization, including small-molecule and biologicals samples using LC-MS/MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry.
Work closely across the Mass Spectrometry Center of Expertise (MSCOE) team to learn the operation, performance features, and limitations of the ionization techniques and high-resolution mass spectrometers employed within the MSCOE.
Partner with biologicals and crop protection experts in Corteva regulatory, biologicals, and crop health research and development (CHR&D) to understand their research problems and to leverage mass spectrometry tools to improve our ability to develop biologicals and pipeline chemistries.
Perform data analysis, processing, and interpretation of LC/MS high resolution data (including MS/MS) to advance project goals.
Collaborate externally, bringing new technologies into MSCOE to enhance capabilities and help shape the regulatory landscape in the area of metabolite identification using mass spectrometry.
The successful candidate may also have additional responsibility that includes:
The selected candidate will develop and apply analytical tools in metabolite identification and characterization in microbial/plant/insect matrices using mass spectrometry. Projects may include developing and validating LC-MS/MS workflows for probe and GLP metabolite identification, improving structural proposal through the use of ion-mobility, MS/MS, and accurate-mass measurements, and translating methods to support questions unique to Corteva’s agricultural products (e.g., crop health biomarkers, mode-of-action studies, and biologicals product characterization). Finally, they will develop analytical tools that aid our biologicals pipeline (both from a workflow and data interpretation perspective).
What Skills You Need:
PhD or BS/MS with equivalent experience in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, or related disciplines.
Experience with metabolite identification and associated lab-based methodologies (e.g., small-molecule LC-MS/MS, sample preparation, and separations).
Ability to work effectively within a team environment – excellent communication, exchanging ideas with colleagues, sharing workload, and interacting with supervisors.
Keen interest in working in a dynamic, exciting industry and applying scientific information for the protection of environmental health.
Publication record in the peer-reviewed literature reflecting intellectual leadership and scientific creativity.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in metabolite identification, metabolomics, and small-molecule analysis.
Experience with analytical chemistry.
Experience with high resolution mass spectrometry and chromatographic separations.
