Job Description

JPC Partners is looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Analyst to join our client’s Market Settlement Operations team. The Analyst will be responsible for the timely and accurate completion of hourly, daily, weekly and monthly data review and calculation processes that are used in the settlement of each market and production of the weekly and monthly billing statements. In addition, the Analyst will develop and maintain process documentation for such processes and assist in responding to customer inquiries and other ad hoc requests, including basic data analysis.
Essential Duties:
  • Settlement Processing: The Analyst will learn and utilize in-house developed software tools and Microsoft Office Products to assist in the efficient and effective completion of settlement tasks with the ultimate goal being the timely and accurate publishing of the billing statements.
  • Data Review and Validation:  The Analyst will be responsible for examining various forms of data, such as load, generation and tie meter data, generation resource commitment logs, transmission revenue requirements or other data submitted by market participants and upstream systems for accuracy and completeness. The Analyst will be expected to resolve data issues prior to the data being used in settlement and billing calculations. 
  • Documentation and Standards: The Analyst will document and maintain the specifications (process guides, job aids, etc.) for essential functions within the department.  The (Sr.) Analyst may also be enlisted to aid in the development of business requirements documentation as part of team efforts to automate and/or streamline departmental processes.
  • SOC 1 Audit Support: The Analyst will perform all essential functions and duties to comply with the requirements of the SOC 1 control objectives and activities. The SOC 1 is an audit conducted by an external third party to review the internal controls used to protect client data specifically as it relates to financial reporting.  The Analyst’s duties will include maintaining appropriate documentation, identifying and logging appropriate issues, assisting in the resolution of those issues where appropriate and performing the required periodic reviews with the audit staff. 
  • Questioning and Problem Solving: The Analyst will be expected to apply a questioning attitude and problem solving skills to identify issues in Market Settlements data and processes, investigate their root cause and suggest resolutions to those issues.
  • Continuous Learning: Continuous learning and expansion of knowledge of markets and services the team settles and the general business functions will be the norm and expectation of each Market Settlements Operations team member.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in Market Settlement Operations
  • 1-5+ years of experience in power markets or functions related to electric generation or distribution (preferred)
  • Soft skills – ability to learn very quickly, critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
    • Must produce highly accurate and audit-ready deliverables
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to identify and solve problems
  • Ability to succinctly convey complex information to others in written and verbal form
  • Ability to break a process down into sub-routines and clearly document the associated tasks
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work amongst competing demands
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to perform basic quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, MS-Excel and MS-PowerPoint)
    • Excel proficiency required and utilized daily
  • BS or equivalent work experience in Business, Mathematics, Data Science or Computer Science
Preferred:
  • Experience with company operations, markets, planning and/or finance functions
  • Experience with documenting complex processes and/or business requirements 
  • Experience with writing queries to retrieve data from a database
