About Sacred Heart University
As one of the nation’s largest Catholic universities and among the fastest-growing private doctoral institutions in the U.S., Sacred Heart University is a national leader in shaping higher education for the 21st century. SHU offers more than 100 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs on its Fairfield, Conn., campus. Sacred Heart also has a campus in Dingle, Ireland, and offers online programs. Nearly 10,000 students attend the University’s nine colleges and schools: College of Arts & Sciences; School of Communication, Media & the Arts; School of Social Work; School of Performing Arts; College of Health Professions; the Isabelle Farrington College of Education & Human Development; the Jack Welch College of Business & Technology; School of Computer Science & Engineering and the Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N., & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing. Sacred Heart, a Laudato Si’ campus, stands out from other Catholic universities as it was established to be led by the laity. This contemporary Catholic university is rooted in the rich Catholic intellectual tradition and the liberal arts and, at the same time, cultivates students to be forward thinkers who enact change—in their own lives, professions and in their communities. The Princeton Review includes SHU in its Best 391 Colleges: 2026 Edition and Best Business Schools: 2025 Edition. Sacred Heart is home to the award-winning, NPR-affiliate station, WSHU Public Radio; a Division I athletics program and an impressive performing arts program that includes choir, band, dance and theatre.
Full-Time | Non-Tenure-Track, Visiting Appointment | Undergraduate & Graduate Programs
Jack Welch College of Business & Technology invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor with deep, hands-on expertise in branding and brand management. We are seeking a practitioner-scholar who has built and stewarded brands inside a leading consumer-facing organization (branding powerhouses such as Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Johnson and Johnson, and similar companies are strong points of reference) and who wants to translate that real-world experience into the classroom. This is a teaching-focused role covering both undergraduate and graduate marketing courses, with particular emphasis on brand strategy, brand management, and applied brand-building practice.
Beyond the classroom, the ideal candidate is genuinely hands-on with students — approachable, present, and invested in walking alongside each student's academic and professional journey with patience and compassion. This is a role for someone who sees teaching and mentorship as inseparable, and who wants to help shape the next generation of brand marketers with the same care they once brought to building brands.
Responsibilities
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in marketing, with a core focus on branding and brand management, following the college's standard teaching load for full-time visiting faculty.
• Design and deliver applied, practice-based coursework — case studies, brand audits, live-client or capstone projects — that draws directly on real brand-management experience.
• Advise and mentor students on coursework, projects, and career planning with a hands-on, compassionate approach, including regular office hours and informal availability to students.
• Support experiential learning activities such as case competitions, internships, and industry guest engagements connecting students to the branding and consumer marketing world.
• Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of the marketing program's branding-related course offerings.
• Participate in department and college activities, including assessment, meetings, and service appropriate to a visiting faculty appointment.
Required Qualifications
• Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) in Marketing, Business, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on, in-house brand management experience gained at a leading, brand-driven consumer organization (e.g., Procter & Gamble, Unilever, or comparable companies).
• Minimum of 5 years of consulting experience in branding or strategic brand management.
• Prior teaching experience in higher education (adjunct, visiting, or full-time faculty appointment).
• Demonstrated ability to translate real-world branding experience into engaging, applied classroom instruction.
• A genuine, demonstrated commitment to hands-on student mentorship and advising, marked by patience, empathy, and compassion.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Doctoral degree (PhD, DBA, or equivalent terminal degree) in Marketing or a related field.
• Corporate training or executive-education teaching experience.
• Experience teaching or mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Familiarity with digital and data-driven branding practices (brand analytics, social/digital brand strategy, etc.).
• A track record of thought leadership, such as industry speaking engagements, publications, or professional certifications.
Application Instructions
Interested candidates should submit the following materials through Sacred Heart University's online candidate portal:
• Cover letter addressing relevant branding/industry experience and teaching interests
• Current curriculum vitae or resume
• Brief statement of teaching philosophy
• Names and contact information for three professional references
All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
