The Marketing Project Manager provides leadership and oversight for the project management function within the enterprise Marketing & Communications department. They are responsible for working across department teams and functions to successfully manage a wide range of projects in support of the organization’s strategic objectives.

The Marketing Project Manager oversees a team of Marketing Project Coordinators and provides day-to-day leadership, guidance and workload oversight. They ensure consistent project management practices, effective prioritization, workflow management and continuous improvement efforts within the Marketing & Communications department. The Marketing Project Manager leverages strong collaborative relationships across teams to drive operational efficiency, accountability and successful project outcomes.

In partnership with Strategic Marketing Managers, Marketing Project Coordinators, and other team members, the Marketing Project Manager ensures that projects are scheduled and resourced correctly and manages the efficient and effective execution of projects by ensuring assignments are completed as tasked and deadlines are met for a wide variety of content deliverables, integrated marketing campaigns, materials and other assets and tactics.

The Marketing Project Manager also manages multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating and communicating with a variety of colleagues and project owners throughout the organization, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. They work with the Creative Operations Manager to schedule the needed creative resources for projects, create and communicate project timelines, and usher each project through completion based on briefing, requirements and other input from Strategic Marketing Managers while using their understanding of departmental priorities and organizational goals to drive prioritization and decision-making. The Marketing Project Manager excels at building strong working relationships with various team members to get projects completed accurately and on time.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES ( Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  • Provide direct supervision, coaching and day-to-day guidance to Marketing Project Coordinators, including prioritization support, workflow oversight and professional development.
  • Establish and reinforce project management standards, best practices and operational processes across the Marketing & Communications team.
  • Lead regular project status meetings and communicate project updates, risks, resource concerns and timeline changes to key Marketing & Communications team members and stakeholders.
  • Oversee and manage the intake, opening, and scheduling of projects for Strategic Marketing Managers and other Marketing & Communications team project owners.
  • Work closely with various functions to ensure all resources are properly allocated.
  • Create efficient project timelines and workflows, comparing existing schedules against proposed timelines to identify overbookings, partnering closely with the Creative Operations Manager on resourcing for the Content and Creative Delivery team.
  • Manage the completion of project deliverables, ensuring tasks are completed as assigned, identifying any risks or roadblocks to completing tasks and projects on time and on budget and proactively working to resolve issues.
  • Make recommendations and suggest creative solutions to ensure milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Work closely with various team members during the project planning phase.
  • Work with the Creative Operations Manager to assign project tasks and modify timelines to accommodate new and changing priorities.
  • Proactively identify ways to strengthen adherence to processes ensuring the necessary files, information and resources are provided to complete assigned tasks.
  • When necessary, track down files and information the team needs to complete assigned tasks.
  • Serve as an expert user of the project management software, proactively identifying opportunities to optimize existing systems and processes for project planning and execution.
  • Regularly monitor project activities, stay on top of milestones, and quickly identify issues to maximize system and process effectiveness.
  • Support departmental planning, capacity management and process optimization efforts to improve Strategy & Planning team efficiency and project execution.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or related discipline required.
  2. 7+ years project management experience in either a traditional agency or in-house marketing environment.
  3. Solid project management and organizational skills with ability to multitask and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment, including strong attention to detail.
  4. Project Management Professional certification and experience managing others a plus.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  6. Highly motivated and proactive.
  7. Proficiency in project management systems and tools – preferably Hive.
  8. A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
