Job Description

The Marketing Operations & Analytics Manager is responsible for marketing performance measurement, business intelligence, operational visibility, and executive reporting across Gelson’s marketing initiatives. This position establishes and maintains the measurement discipline needed to evaluate campaign performance, customer engagement, loyalty effectiveness, promotional results, and return on marketing investment.

The Marketing Operations & Analytics Manager analyzes customer, campaign, loyalty, sales, and channel data to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and areas for improvement. This role translates complex data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations that support marketing strategy, business decisions, and company objectives.

The position works closely with Marketing, Merchandising, Finance, Operations, Digital, Loyalty, Campaign Strategy, Content, and external marketing partners to ensure consistent measurement, accurate reporting, effective budget management, and operational alignment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance Measurement

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance marketing dashboards, scorecards, reports, and recurring KPI reporting across marketing channels, campaigns, and programs.
  • Measure and analyze campaign performance, promotional results, sales lift, customer engagement, redemption, conversion, loyalty activity, and return on marketing investment.
  • Analyze customer, campaign, loyalty, sales, and channel data to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and areas requiring attention.
  • Translate complex data and analytical findings into concise business insights, recommendations, and presentations for Marketing leadership and executive management.
  • Establish standardized measurement frameworks, KPI definitions, reporting methodologies, and performance benchmarks.
  • Develop consistent post-campaign reporting and recap processes to evaluate results and identify opportunities for future improvement.
  • Monitor performance against established objectives and proactively identify significant variances or trends.

Business Intelligence & Reporting

  • Provide timely and accurate reporting to support marketing planning, business reviews, and executive decision-making.
  • Develop reporting tools and dashboards that improve visibility into marketing performance and business results.
  • Ensure data used in reporting is accurate, consistent, and appropriately interpreted.
  • Identify opportunities to automate recurring reports and improve the efficiency of data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.
  • Maintain documentation of reporting processes, KPI definitions, data sources, and measurement methodologies.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify reporting needs and develop practical solutions.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with Campaign Strategy, Content, Loyalty, Digital, Merchandising, Finance, Operations, and other departments to align marketing objectives, data requirements, reporting, and performance expectations.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to establish measurable objectives and appropriate KPIs for marketing programs.
  • Collaborate with Finance and other business partners to validate marketing results, promotional performance, and financial impacts.
  • Support Marketing leadership with data and analysis for business cases, strategic initiatives, investment decisions, and vendor evaluations.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external marketing partners.

Marketing Budget & Vendor Management

  • Track the Marketing budget, committed spend, invoices, actual expenditures, and remaining budget to improve financial visibility and forecast accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate reporting of marketing expenditures and commitments.
  • Partner with Finance to identify variances, reconcile expenditures, and support budget forecasting.
  • Support vendor performance reviews by analyzing deliverables, results, spending, and performance against agreed-upon objectives.
  • Provide data and analysis to support vendor evaluations, business cases, contract discussions, and investment recommendations.

Marketing Operations & Communications

  • Coordinate selected internal and store-facing marketing communications, ensuring information is accurate, clear, consistent, and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Support the development and improvement of marketing processes, workflows, calendars, and operating procedures.
  • Identify process gaps and opportunities to improve efficiency, accountability, communication, and visibility across Marketing.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, templates, reporting standards, and processes that support consistent execution.
  • Assist with special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the Vice President, Marketing.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve marketing reporting, data quality, workflow efficiency, and operational visibility.
  • Develop recommendations for process improvements based on data, stakeholder feedback, and business needs.
  • Promote consistent use of standardized KPIs, reporting practices, and measurement methodologies across Marketing.
  • Leverage automation, technology, and analytical tools to reduce manual processes and improve reporting accuracy and timeliness.
  • Stay informed of emerging marketing analytics, business intelligence, customer measurement, and reporting practices relevant to the retail industry.

Performance in this position will be measured by:

  • Timeliness, accuracy, and reliability of executive and management reporting.
  • Consistency and completeness of campaign and promotional measurement.
  • Improved visibility into marketing ROI, customer engagement, and promotional effectiveness.
  • Accuracy of Marketing budget tracking committed spend reporting, and forecasting.
  • Quality and usefulness of analytical insights and recommendations.
  • Adoption and effective use of dashboards, scorecards, and standardized reporting.
  • Reduction in reporting gaps, manual processes, and operational inefficiencies.
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration and communication.
  • Quality and timeliness of support provided to Marketing leadership and business partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Analytics, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Approximately 4–7 years of progressive experience in marketing analytics, business intelligence, marketing operations, customer analytics, financial analysis, or a related discipline.
  • Experience analyzing marketing, customer, sales, promotional, loyalty, or business performance data.
  • Experience developing dashboards, scorecards, recurring reports, and executive-level reporting.
  • Retail, grocery, loyalty, CRM, consumer marketing, or promotional analytics experience preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet and data-analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret large or complex datasets.
  • Experience with business intelligence, dashboarding, visualization, CRM, loyalty, or marketing analytics platforms preferred.
  • Strong understanding of marketing KPIs, campaign measurement, customer engagement, promotional effectiveness, and ROI analysis.
  • Ability to translate data into clear business insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present analytical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across departments and with external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, develop practical solutions, and improve processes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication.
  • Ability to review and analyze detailed information and data for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel to Gelson’s stores, meetings, vendor locations, or other business-related locations may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Primarily office-based in a professional corporate environment.
  • Regular interaction with Marketing, Merchandising, Finance, Operations, Digital, Loyalty, store teams, and external vendors.
  • Occasional visits to Gelson’s stores and other company locations may be required.
  • May require occasional work outside of normal business hours to support special projects, campaigns, meetings, or business needs.

Salary range: $77,000 - $94,600
