Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Membership & Marketing Director oversees membership engagement and marketing activities for the Hartman YMCA, with a focus on creating an accessible, welcoming, and inclusive experience for individuals of all abilities. This position works closely with individuals with disabilities, families, caregivers, and community partners while supervising Member Engagement Representatives and other assigned staff who serve as key points of contact for current and prospective members.

This position will receive a minimum of 4 weeks Paid-Time Off, Holiday Pay, Full-time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Membership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develops and implements membership recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention strategies that support membership and revenue goals while creating a welcoming, member-focused culture and exceptional member experience.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff and volunteers; establishes performance expectations and provides ongoing coaching to support individual and team goals.
  3. Works directly with individuals with disabilities, families, caregivers, and community partners to identify and address barriers to participation, support accessible member experiences, and promote meaningful inclusion and engagement throughout the Hartman YMCA.
  4. Promotes membership and program enrollment to current and prospective members and coordinates registration processes across in-person, phone, and digital channels in partnership with program leadership.
  5. Develops and implements strategies, events, activities, and member challenges that encourage members of all abilities to participate in programs, build relationships, and become actively engaged in the YMCA community.
  6. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations, service groups, businesses, and other partners; represents the YMCA through outreach, presentations, and community engagement opportunities.
  7. Partners with the Association Marketing team to develop and distribute membership and program communications while ensuring compliance with YMCA marketing, brand, and graphic standards.
  8. Participates in annual budget planning; manages the approved membership budget, monitors performance and revenue goals, and takes appropriate action to address variances.
  9. Oversees front desk and membership operations, including procedures, staff communication, equipment and inventory, and consistent implementation of established operational standards.
  10. Establishes monthly and annual goals with supervisor; monitors membership, engagement, and marketing results and provides accurate data and reports to support organizational planning and grant requirements.
  11. Ensures compliance with YMCA safety and risk management practices, including established procedures, staff training, incident reporting, and the safety of members, participants, staff, and volunteers.
  12. Participates in the annual Y Partners campaign, the Association Member Engagement Cabinet, and other organizational initiatives as assigned.
  13. Models behavior consistent with YMCA mission and core values and performs other duties as assigned.
  14. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience. Three to four years of experience in membership, marketing, customer/member engagement, or a related field preferred.
  2. Experience working with individuals with disabilities, their families, caregivers, or disability-serving organizations is strongly preferred, along with a demonstrated commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and creating welcoming experiences for people of all abilities.
  3. Ability to build effective relationships and communicate professionally with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and social and economic segments of the community.
  4. Strong computer and technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, Mac environments, and other standard business applications.
  5. Understanding of nonprofit organizations and the partnership between staff and volunteers, with a demonstrated commitment to the YMCA mission and core values.
  6. Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to locations throughout the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.
  7. Must complete required YMCA certifications within established timeframes, including Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazard Communication within the first week of employment, and YMCA-approved CPR, First Aid, and AED training within the first 60 days. Must be able to respond appropriately to safety and emergency situations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Work is performed in a fast-paced facility environment. Position requires attending meetings at different off-site locations.
  2. Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required.
  3. Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  4. Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative in order to work within deadlines.
  5. Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
  6. Incumbent must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, as well as, able to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils is essential.
