What are Trust Fund Positions?
Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. Smithsonian Associates (Associates) leverages the vast resources of the Smithsonian Institution to create pan-institutional public programs for Associates members and the general public. Associates’ programs are created for in-person Washington DC area audiences and virtual audiences across the country with content delivered via Zoom. Associates curates and produces informative, enlightening, entertaining, and insightful programs, including lectures, seminars, courses, study tours, studio arts, performances, films, children’s theater, and summer camp inspired by and amplifying the full character of the Smithsonian’s collections, exhibitions, and research. Audiences of all ages explore topics in scientific, historic, artistic, and cultural expression. Through their participation, members and the public become involved in the Institution’s work, creating broad interest and support for the Smithsonian. Smithsonian Associates is a financially independent educational non-profit business activity within the Smithsonian: funding derived from ticket sales, tuition, membership fees and fundraising.
Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Advancement and as an integral member of the Communications team, the incumbent carries out activities related to digital advertising, prospect acquisition, and customer conversion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Develops and maintains customer journey maps to capture end-to-end experiences, uncover pain points, and identify opportunities for service and process improvements. Designs and executes targeted email campaigns informed by journey insights, leveraging automation and triggered messaging. Creates and manages email campaigns across all Associates product lines. Monitors campaign performance, analyzes results, and refines strategies to maximize engagement and revenue growth.
· Leads creation of annual marketing plans for each product line in partnership with the Programming Team, Creative Team, and other relevant stakeholders. Defines campaign goals, target audiences, positioning, and messaging frameworks to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
· Oversees the setup and ongoing maintenance of event information in Tessitura, collaborating with Program Department staff to gather accurate details and coordinating with the Customer Service Manager on new program announcements and event status updates. Monitors and updates web content across Associates websites, with a focus on dynamic content integrated through Associates’ membership/CRM system.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the IS-5 level that is close or similar to the work of this job. Incumbents must possess:
· Knowledge of online communication principles, techniques, methods, trends, and best practices.
· Knowledge of, and skill in the use of, social media platforms, posts, reports, blog posts, articles, and other materials that convey information to audiences of varying interests.
· Skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Creative Suite, and online applications in order to develop written, graphic and video content for use on the organization’s website.
· Skill in oral communications to present strategies and proposals and to negotiate their implementation.
· Skill in written communication in order to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals at all levels, to clearly state promotional offers, encourage audience engagement.
· Knowledge and ability to apply strategic planning techniques in a dynamic environment.
· Knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
