Title of Role: Market Research Specialist
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid)
Company Stage of Funding: Multi-company holding group (~$75M+ total funding across portfolio, backed by institutional and strategic investors)
Office Type: Hybrid (San Francisco, Union Square)
Salary: $120,000 – $180,000 + Competitive Equity
Visa: Visa sponsorship available on a case-by-case basis
Our client operates a multi-company AI-focused holding group that builds and scales startups across healthcare, finance, education, trading, and enterprise software.
Each venture is built around AI-native infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on identifying new markets, launching companies quickly, and scaling them through operational and financial leverage.
The organization is led by experienced founders, ex-VCs, and former consultants who specialize in identifying high-upside opportunities and rapidly turning them into functioning companies. This role sits at the core of that engine.
This is a rare opportunity to work across multiple industries, directly influencing which companies get built next while also supporting portfolio strategy, investor materials, and market expansion decisions.
What You Will Do
- Conduct deep market research to identify new industries and startup opportunities
- Evaluate uncapitalized or emerging sectors for potential company creation or acquisition
- Build TAM / SAM / SOM models and investment-grade market sizing analysis
- Synthesize complex industry data into clear strategic insights and recommendations
- Create high-quality investor presentation decks and strategic materials
- Support fundraising narratives and internal investment decision-making
- Work with engineering teams to identify AI applications across new domains
- Assist portfolio companies in identifying new revenue opportunities and market expansion strategies
- Translate fragmented market signals into structured investment hypotheses
- Operate across multiple parallel projects in a fast-moving venture environment
Ideal Candidate Background
- 3–5 years of experience in market research, consulting, investment banking, or private equity
- Background in top-tier consulting (MBB or equivalent strongly preferred)
- Investment banking experience (especially equity research, TMT, or coverage roles)
- VC or PE experience with exposure to market analysis or deal evaluation
- Strong quantitative and analytical background (STEM degree preferred)
- Experience building investor decks, IC memos, or strategic presentations
- Strong exposure to TAM/SAM modeling and market sizing frameworks
Preferred / Strong Signals
- Experience at McKinsey, BCG, Bain, or similar strategy firms
- Investment banking analyst experience at top-tier banks
- VC/PE associate experience with market mapping exposure
- Strong presentation design and storytelling ability (PowerPoint-heavy roles)
- Experience working across multiple industries or sectors
- Exposure to AI tools in research or analytical workflows
- Experience supporting fundraising or investor communications

Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $120,000 – $180,000
