Purpose

Oversees the effective administration of Scotiatrust estate and trust accounts, ensuring that clients, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders receive excellent service within business standard, while meeting all relevant regulatory and fiduciary obligations. Leads the execution of business strategies, plans, and initiatives in the local market and in compliance with internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer-focused culture throughout their team to deepen stakeholder relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Acts as leader for the branch, responsible for the achievement of defined financial goals and management of their P&L, as well as the execution of business strategies and local initiatives that support revenue growth and operation efficiency.
  • Drives the performance and success of the Scotiatrust Estate & Trust Administration team, ensuring the goals, plans and initiatives that align with strategies and objectives are met.
  • Coaches, mentors, and manages a team to deliver high-quality, profitable estate and trust services that meet the complex needs of clients.
  • Oversees the management of risk in the branch by ensuring regulatory and fiduciary requirements are met, resolving complaints, monitoring key metrics, and providing general oversight of their portfolio of Estate, Trust, Protective, and Agency accounts. This includes acting as Chair of the branch’s Discretionary Powers Council, providing guidance on decisions and reinforcing governance standards.
  • Acts as a key escalation point for complex client matters and internal decision-making at the branch level, consulting with colleagues and further escalating issues as needed.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Limits risk exposure by ensuring that administration is carried out in compliance with policies, procedures and audit standards.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education / Experience

Required:

  • Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) Designation or equivalent
  • Estate and Trust Administration experience

Experience in any of the following is desirable:

  • Legal, accounting, finance or business
  • Business Planning and Development
  • People Management
  • Specific regulatory or compliance knowledge

In addition to French, the successful candidate must also have sufficient knowledge of English, as the work involves interacting and collaborating regularly with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with other people, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
