Job Description

Venture Dynamics is seeking a Maritime Planner to support planning activities for Navy ship repair and maintenance projects in an active shipyard environment. This position develops accurate work specifications, work items, change orders, and planning documentation using Work Notifications, drawings, technical documents, and applicable government requirements. The Maritime Planner works closely with Production, Estimating, Scheduling, Supply Chain, Contracts, and customer representatives to ensure work packages are accurate and ready for execution. This role is offered on a contract basis, with strong potential for long-term or permanent placement based on performance and client need.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare, write, revise, issue, and distribute work specifications, planning documents, procedures, and work items in accordance with applicable government requirements and established procedures.
  • Create accurate Work Specification Items and Navy Maintenance Database availabilities to support ship repair and maintenance projects.
  • Review Work Notifications, engineering drawings, blueprints, technical documents, NAVSEA Standard Items, and specifications to develop complete work packages.
  • Conduct ship checks aboard vessels as required to verify work scope, gather technical information, and support planning activities.
  • Review and validate the planning process with production teams, customer representatives, and government personnel to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Prepare advanced planning reports and required documentation for government review and processing.
  • Conduct planning meetings and communicate changes, priorities, and project updates to key personnel.
  • Work closely with Estimators and Schedulers to ensure planning information is accurately represented within the integrated project schedule.
  • Develop and process changes to work specifications as project requirements evolve.
  • Maintain accurate and complete planning documentation in support of ship repair availabilities and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; Associate degree plus two years of directly related experience; or six years of directly related experience.
  • Previous experience working in a U.S. Navy ship repair or maritime shipyard environment.
  • Working knowledge of Navy Maintenance Database NMD Planning and Execution Modules.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, NAVSEA Standard Items, technical documents, and work specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across multiple shipyard disciplines.
  • Ability to identify and resolve planning conflicts involving production, scheduling, estimating, and other project functions.
  • Must be able to conduct ship checks and access vessels, dry docks, tanks, confined spaces, and other shipboard work areas as required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card and required security clearance.
  • Must be willing to travel and work overtime as project requirements dictate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Maritime Planner, Ship Repair Planner, or Work Specification Writer supporting Navy maintenance availabilities.
  • Experience developing work specifications and change orders for Navy ship repair projects.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA requirements and government ship repair planning processes.
  • Experience coordinating with Production Management, Estimating, Scheduling, Supply Chain, Contracts, and government representatives.
  • Experience supporting integrated planning and scheduling activities for ship repair availabilities.
