Job Purpose

The Marine Test Sr Engineer II applies moderate knowledge and practices including equipment, software, systems, controls and/or methodologies to perform a variety of assignments/projects in a technical/engineering environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform research activities and produce thorough analysis and summary reports with limited supervision. Utilize data sources available to understand customer, market, and economic trends that impact marine industry stakeholders. Coordinate with product planning to identify market opportunities and gather customer feedback to inform new product specifications and market requirements.
  • Install, test, analyze, summarize, and report regarding various marine technology systems, including but not limited to: navigation systems, camera systems, boat stabilization systems, propulsion systems, steering systems, or other ADAS systems.
  • Test leadership of rigging component development. Create and maintain schedules, plan testing activities, communicate with suppliers, coordinate with project team members, and summarize and present engineering test results.
  • Manage testing of large outboard engines, including but not limited to: coordination with Japan development teams, creating test schedules, boat preparation, test equipment installation and data collection, determine appropriate test methods and modes, conduct testing and analyze, summarize, and present results.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field (Mechanical/Electrical/Marine)

Minimum Experience

  • 5 years engineering experience, preferably in marine industry

  • Requires minimal supervision and seeks guidance when needed
  • With general guidance, works on projects/assignments of moderate complexity by applying engineering-related knowledge
  • Provides professional guidance and direction
  • Typically moves beyond analysis, diagnosis, and problem recognition to recommendations on matters of importance
  • Often required to interpret policies/standards/requirements/approaches to meet work objectives
  • Demonstrates strong written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical and application knowledge

Working Conditions

  • Travel: Up to 10% may be required. Amount varies based on project demands/responsibilities, conferences, etc.; includes possible overseas travel.
  • Physical: Mixed between research testing and desk. Frequent kneeling, standing, reaching, squatting, bending, pushing and lifting. Physical effort required (pushing 50+ pounds; lifting 25–50 pounds).
  • Hazards: Risks found in a typical office & lab setting. Exposure to explosives/flammables, pressurized equipment, toxic chemicals, moving parts, high temperatures and sun exposure.
  • Overtime: Overtime expected based on project demands/responsibilities.
  • Maintains professional conduct and follows Honda policies, departmental safety, procedures, and rules.
