THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client, an established marine service and repair organization located on Southern Vancouver Island, is seeking experienced Marine Service Technicians to join its growing technical team.

This is an excellent opportunity for mechanically inclined marine professionals who enjoy hands-on troubleshooting, diagnosing complex problems, and working with a wide variety of recreational and pleasure craft.

The successful candidate will work in a well-equipped marine service environment, handling everything from preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs to more involved engine, propulsion, and onboard systems diagnostics.

Our client offers a stable, year-round working environment, competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for ongoing technical training and professional development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Marine Mechanical Service & Repairs

  • Troubleshoot and repair propulsion systems, transmissions, steering components, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and service onboard generators and auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Identify mechanical deficiencies and recommend appropriate repairs or preventative maintenance.

Electrical & Marine Systems

Service Operations & Quality Control

  • Work closely with service coordinators, parts personnel, and fellow technicians to ensure efficient repair operations.
  • Complete accurate service documentation, including work performed, parts requirements, and recommended repairs.
  • Follow established safety procedures while working aboard vessels, in workshop environments, and around marine equipment.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.
  • Deliver professional workmanship while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction and vessel reliability.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications

  • Previous hands-on mechanical experience in the marine industry or a closely related mechanical trade.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair procedures.
  • Experience working with gasoline and/or diesel engines.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative service team.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five or more years of marine mechanical service experience.
  • Experience servicing recreational boats, yachts, or other marine vessels.
  • Familiarity with multiple marine engine and propulsion manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of marine electrical systems, generators, and onboard equipment.
  • Formal marine technician training, trade certification, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience interpreting technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer service information.

Candidates with strong mechanical backgrounds in related industries who are interested in transitioning into marine service may also be considered.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Our client offers a competitive employment package designed to attract and retain skilled marine professionals.

  • Hourly Compensation: $35–$50 per hour, based on technical qualifications, experience, and demonstrated capabilities.
  • Employment: Permanent, full-time position.
  • Work Schedule: Approximately 40 hours per week, primarily weekdays.
  • Health Benefits: Extended health and dental coverage.
