Job Description

Under general supervision, the Marine Program Assistant is part of the Water Quality Division, and is responsible for providing support and technical assistance for water quality related educational and research activities. The primary purpose of the Marine Program Assistant position is to conduct field work such as stormwater outfall monitoring, storm sewer system conveyance mapping, and surface water quality sampling on a variety of funded projects. The Assistant may also assist in public outreach efforts and in other water quality related activities such as routine laboratory work, goose management, and data entry. Additionally, may conduct project summary report writing. The Marine Program Assistant will work as a team member with existing Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) staff including stormwater and water quality specialists, educators, and technicians.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in biological or related sciences and at least 1 year experience relevant to the role of the position or High School Diploma and 2 years volunteer or work experience
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather
  • Must be reliable and able to work independently as well as with others
  • Good communication and record keeping skills
  • Ability to understand and implement written and oral instructions
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with data entry and analysis
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass Motor Vehicle Screen process
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental sciences, hydrology, natural resource management, engineering, or other related field
  • Experience operating and trailering small motorboats
  • Experience working with GPS devices
  • Experience using (GIS) Geographic Information Systems software
  • One year experience in stormwater or water quality related projects

POSITION DETAILS:

Salary: $21.50-$31.50 per hour

Schedule: NONEXEMPT – REG: 40 Hours per Week

No relocation or VISA Sponsorship available
