As a Marine Painter, you’ll play a vital role in preserving the iconic finish and presentation that defines every Hinckley vessel. The Marine Painter is responsible for the preparation, application, setup, and breakdown of various boats. The ideal candidate will have experience in the marine industry and proficiency in painting techniques and tools. This position is perfect for a detail-oriented professional who takes pride in precision and craftsmanship.

Responsibilities:

  • Surface Preparation: Prep, fair, and finish sand surfaces to ensure proper adhesion and smooth finishes.
  • Spraying: Apply epoxy primers, urethane, and acrylic topcoats using conventional or HVLP spray guns with pressure pots.
  • Paint/Gelcoat Matching: Perform color matching, spot repairs, and detailing.
  • Minor Glass Repairs: Fill and fair surfaces using epoxy or vinyl-ester fillers.
  • Equipment Use: Operate staging, ladders, scissor lifts, and other equipment safely.
  • Painting Bottoms: Sand, brush, roll finish, and airless spray antifouling or other coatings (preferred but not required).
  • Polishing: Maintain decks and topsides with attention to detail.

Requirements

  • 2-5+ years in prepping/spraying for automotive or marine applications.
  • 1-3 years of general boatyard experience preferred.
  • Experience with airless spraying.
  • Background in industrial, commercial construction, shipyard, or house painting.
  • Knowledge of common paint brands in the industry.
  • Ability to follow manufacturers’ specifications and uphold high standards of excellence.
