Venture Dynamics is seeking experienced Marine Painters to support Navy and commercial ship repair and preservation projects in active shipyard environments. This role involves surface preparation and brush-and-roll application of marine coating systems aboard naval and commercial vessels. Work is performed aboard ships, in dry docks, tanks, voids, and industrial facilities in accordance with NAVSEA standards and shipyard specifications. This position supports shipyard projects throughout the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, including Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, and Yorktown.
Per diem may be available depending on contract requirements and travel distance.
Responsibilities
Perform surface preparation including sanding, scraping, needle-gunning, grinding, and solvent cleaning
Remove deteriorated coatings, rust, scale, grease, and contaminants to specification standards
Mask and protect adjacent equipment and boundaries prior to coating application
Mix and apply single- and multi-part epoxy, high-solid epoxy, primer, and finish coating systems
Apply brush-and-roll coatings while maintaining required film thickness (MIL/DFT)
Perform stripe coating, touch-up, and preservation work per work packages
Inspect coated surfaces for coverage, holidays, and visible defects prior to inspection
Follow NAVSEA Standard Items and shipyard production standards
Requirements
Minimum five (5) years of ship repair painting experience at the journeyman level
Demonstrated proficiency with brush-and-roll application of multi-part marine coating systems
Experience operating surface preparation power tools including grinders, sanders, and needle guns
Ability to read and interpret coating specifications, work packages, and drawings
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in shipboard environments
Ability to obtain shipyard access credentials including DBIDS when required
Ability to pass background screening and drug testing per site requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Experience aboard U.S. Navy or Military Sealift Command vessels
Familiarity with NAVSEA 009-32 preservation standards
OSHA 10 Maritime certification
Experience directing helpers or working as a lead painter

Work is performed aboard active vessels, in dry docks, tanks, voids, and industrial shipyard environments. Conditions may include confined spaces, heights, variable weather exposure, and industrial noise. Reliable transportation is required to report to assigned shipyard or project locations. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts depending on project and production requirements. Respiratory protection may be required based on task, location, or environmental conditions. Candidates must be able to safely wear required PPE, including respirators, in accordance with site safety policies.
