Executes routine maintenance and janitorial of both the vessels and facilities. Follows up on jobs and consults with Lead Engineer for directions and support, but is primarily self-sufficient. Able to solve most challenges without assistance or intervention and furthers own knowledge as needed to complete tasks. Records assignments in appropriate programs and places with accuracy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Mastery of all duties & responsibilities of the Apprentice Mechanic position.
• Advanced working knowledge of all of our diesel engines.
• Ability to diagnose and repair all primary vessel systems without assistance.
• Basic repair and diagnosis of all pilothouse electronics.
• Ability to replace all shop-serviceable engine components, as directed by engineers or management.
• Proper diagnosis and repair of all pumps that can affect vessel or company operations.
• Using laptops to record and diagnose vessel alarm & trouble conditions to find and clear faults.
• Ability to fabricate parts for, or make repairs to items considered vital, or a part of a life-saving system.
• Basic knowledge of rigging parts and best practices. Ability to splice and repair dock systems as needed.
• Substantial knowledge of and ability to repair and maintain all engineering systems, company-wide.
• Intelligently prioritizes engineering shop duties & responsibilities and ensures projects stay organized and focused.
• Mentors fellow crewmembers and ensures Apprentice Mechanics are following safety protocols & best practices.
• Learn & demonstrate basic understanding of hybrid vessel systems.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting and repair. Working knowledge of 3-phace electricity and electrical distribution systems.
• Takes direction from engineers & management and ensures repairs are completed in a through & safe manner.
• Familiarity with all department engineering needs including Alcatraz Island, Pier 33, Yard Periods, Special Projects, etc.
• Use of Laboratory Services for oil, coolant, fuel, and hydraulic fluid analysis.
• Ensure completion of all logs and tasks in a reliable and accurate manner.
• Learns new skills and information as needed to problem solve. Seeks guidance or assistance when necessary.
• Organizes workload in a reliable & effective manner.
• Maintains tools & workspace in a clean and operational state.
• Thorough verbal & electronic documentation of deficiencies and repairs.
• Basic understanding of pipefitting, plumbing and fluid flow control.
• Ensures all engineering systems stay on or ahead of best practices maintenance schedules.
• Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:
• 1 Year of Industry Experience or successful completion of Apprentice Mechanic Program.
• Functional understanding of electricity and the relevant safe industry practices for working around it.
• HAZWOPER certificate (40 hours)
• Forklift Certification
• CPR & First Aid Certification
