The Marine Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering systems throughout the vessel. This includes main propulsion, auxiliary engines, power generation, hydraulic systems (critical for AHTS/PSV), DP systems, and all hotel services. The Engineer ensures that all machinery operates within defined parameters and complies with Class, Flag State, and Qatari regulatory requirements.
Operate, monitor, and maintain all engine room systems, including main propulsion, generators, power management systems (PMS), fuel/oil/lubrication systems, and auxiliary equipment.
For AHTS/PSV roles: Demonstrate specialized knowledge in maintaining and troubleshooting complex hydraulic systems (winches, cranes, steering gears, thrusters) and dynamic positioning (DP) system machinery.
Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance as per the vessel's Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults swiftly and effectively to minimize downtime.
Ensure strict adherence to the company’s Safety Management System (SMS), permit-to-work systems, and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures.
Maintain a clean, safe, and environmentally compliant engine room. Manage waste and bilge water in line with MARPOL regulations.
Maintain accurate engine room logs, bunker records, maintenance reports, and inventory records for spares and chemicals.
Assist the Chief Engineer in preparing for audits (Class, Flag State, ISM, ISPS, and client requirements).
Ensure all machinery and safety equipment certifications are up to date.
Comply with all Qatari Port State and Ministry of Transport regulations.
For Chief Engineer Roles:
Lead, manage, and mentor the engine room team.
Coordinate all technical operations and manage the engine department budget and spare parts inventory.
Supervise and instruct junior engineers and ratings, promoting a culture of continuous learning and safety.
Stand an engineering watch as required.
Valid STCW Certifications appropriate to the rank applied for (e.g.,
Chief Engineer (Unlimited)
or
Second Engineer Officer
for senior roles).
Valid STCW Engine Room Rating certification for junior positions (e.g.,
Oiler, Fitter
).
Valid certificates for any advanced training (e.g.,
High Voltage, LNG Tanker Safety
, etc., if applicable).
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a similar rank on offshore vessels.
Proven and recent experience on AHTS and/or PSV vessel types is highly desirable.
Strong background with diesel-electric propulsion systems and power management systems (PMS).
Solid, hands-on experience in hydraulic systems maintenance and troubleshooting.
Medical: Valid seafarer’s medical fitness certificate from an approved facility.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in planned maintenance systems (PMS), engine room watchkeeping, and troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical systems.
Personal Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, a proactive and diligent work ethic, and excellent teamwork and communication skills. Fluency in English (written and verbal) is mandatory. Ability to perform under pressure in a demanding environment.
