Job Description

Introduction to the job

The Manufacturing – YieldStar (YS) Technical Support Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring stable and efficient production performance of YieldStar systems in Linkou. This position acts as a technical problem owner within defined scope, responsible for driving structured troubleshooting, restoring system performance, and supporting continuous improvement in a high-pressure manufacturing environment.

Unlike domain-specific roles, this position focuses on broad system-level understanding, including optics, sensors, control systems, and mechatronics interactions within YieldStar platforms. The engineer is expected to bridge execution and technical analysis, working closely with Manufacturing, Production Engineering, and Development & Engineering teams to drive effective problem resolution.

In addition to resolving operational disturbances, this role contributes to system understanding, problem prevention, and capability building, serving as a key talent pipeline toward advanced technical roles within YieldStar manufacturing.

Role and responsibilities

Technical Ownership & Advanced Troubleshooting

  • Act as a technical problem owner within assigned scope for YieldStar systems.

  • Perform structured root-cause analysis using system data, logs, and failure mechanisms.

  • Restore system performance efficiently under production pressure while maintaining quality and output targets.

  • Develop solution approaches including containment, recovery, and follow-up actions.

System-Level Problem Solving

  • Analyze system behavior across multiple subsystems, including sensors and measurement systems, control and signal processing systems, and mechanical and mechatronic components.

  • Identify root causes through data-driven and logical reasoning.

  • Provide structured technical recommendations and support escalation when needed.

  • Prepare clear technical inputs to support decision-making by senior engineers and stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement & Structural Prevention

  • Identify recurring issues and drive actions to close structural gaps within defined technical scope.

  • Initiate improvement actions to enhance system stability, cycle time, and reliability.

  • Support implementation and standardization of Best-Known Methods (BKM).

  • Contribute to prevention of repeated disturbances across production lines.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Influence

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, and Development teams.

  • Contribute to technical discussions with clear logic and structured communication.

  • Drive alignment across teams in resolving technical issues.

Knowledge Development & Coaching

  • Develop and share troubleshooting knowledge, system understanding, and best practices.

  • Support training materials development for YieldStar system behavior and diagnostics.

  • Mentor junior engineers to strengthen team technical capability.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering, such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, or related disciplines.

  • 3–5 years of experience in a high-tech production, manufacturing, or engineering environment.

  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and diagnosis of complex systems or equipment.

  • Solid understanding of failure analysis, structured problem-solving methodologies, and quality mindset.

  • Ability to perform structured analysis using data and logical reasoning to identify root causes.

  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability in resolving technical issues in a timely manner.

  • Good communication skills for effective collaboration and technical discussion across teams.

  • Basic English proficiency for technical communication and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in semiconductor equipment, precision systems, or high-tech manufacturing environments.

  • Solid troubleshooting experience in complex systems involving multiple subsystems.

  • Familiarity with structured RCA methodologies and data-driven problem-solving.

  • Exposure to system-level thinking and cross-functional technical collaboration.

  • Demonstrated ownership, strong logical thinking, and ability to work under pressure.

  • Good English communication skills for technical discussion and reporting.

About ASML

Who are we?

ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.

What do we do?

We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography. Our lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of tiny structures on silicon that together make up a microchip. We push our technology to new limits to enable our customers to create smaller, faster and more powerful chips.

Who are our people?

While you may think that only engineers and mathematicians work at ASML, you'll be surprised to find out that our people come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
