Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Manufacturing Technician – Level 1 to join our team in Charlotte, NC. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

An organization within Northrop Grumman’s, SYNOPTICS is the world-wide leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These “solid-state” laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems.

The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 60 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries.

Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. SYNOPTICS serves the photonics and optics industry across the globe.

In this job, you will:

• Collaboratewithin a technicalteam comprised ofengineers,welders,andmaintenancestaffto perform alldaily tasksassociatedwithproductionof oxideandfluoridesinglecrystalsgrownfromthe meltinhigh temperaturefurnaces.

• Responsiblefor the buildingandmonitoring of crystal growth furnaces.

• Must beable to read andinterpret engineeringblueprints and assemble furnace builds based off that information.

• Other responsibilitieswill include: weighing and mixing rawmaterials, operatingcrystal growth furnaces,monitoringdata andgraphs, andharvestingand evaluatingfinal crystalproducts.

• The individual willgain hands-onexperience operating specialized equipment as well as a technical understanding of the art and science of bulk crystal growth processes.

• The ManufacturingTechnician role requires an eye for detail andhigh quality of workmanship when assembling growth furnaces.

• Preparing the raw materialsused in theprocess andharvesting and inspection of the crystals.

Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required

• No clearance required to start

• Experience with standard hand tools and measuring devices including calipers and rulers

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis

• Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn

• Must have computer experience and be able to work with spreadsheet

​​ Preferred Qualifications:

• Associates degree in a technical discipline is preferred

• Strong aptitude in basic math and science disciplines including physics and chemistry are preferred

• Crystal growth experience is preferred but not required

• Mechanical aptitude and good troubleshooting skills are preferred

• Hydrochloric, Sulfuric, and Phosphoric Acids; Acetone, Methanol

Primary Level Salary Range: $41,300.00 - $68,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
