Job Description

The Offsite Maintenance and Modernization (M&M) Office is hiring a Manufacturing Technician – Steel Processing.

This position will be located in Seekonk, MA and will be responsible for supporting Steel Processing of new construction VCS and CLB material.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing daily oversight and technical assistance to our strategic partners responsible for cutting and forming EB materials to be consumed downstream at the Focus Factory sites.

This individual will be responsible for reviewing material and documentation for post processed items. The inspection process will validate heat/lot, material markings, material pedigree and traceability, applicable drawings and revisions, dimensional checks, quantities, bevel and formed part inspection. Upon successful validation of material post processed, all associated work orders will be electronically closed. This position requires a serious mindset that pays very close attention to details and will be the last line of defense prior to material being installed into Submarine components.

The selected candidate will be responsible for interfacing with all levels of customer and EB management. The position requires interfacing with Quonset Point, Groton, Off-Site Management and government personnel.

This individual will work collaboratively with supervision to achieve department goals and apply corrective actions as needed to address deficiencies. The position requires a strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and accountability to achieve overall success.

Travel will be required to offsite locations to support coordination and oversight of related activities.

Key Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for daily assignments and overall coordination of employees to drive maximum performance, efficiency and quality of functions
  • Provide daily oversight and technical assistance to strategic partners working steel processing
  • Assist Operations Supervisors with steel processing material reviews and work order closeouts.
  • Must have knowledge of safe work practices; ability to comprehend and follow or issue verbal and /or written instructions; willing to work as necessary to support production needs
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with subordinates and supervisors
  • Must have the ability to set, assign, and measure daily production goals, instruct, mentor, motivate crew and hold crew members accountable as required
  • Responsible for the administration and execution of the craft’s work paper (ie. Work orders, EWP, ERS, ACCP, etc)
  • Collaborate with site leadership to ensure readiness for inspections and audits
  • Improve workforce performance and productivity; establish and communicate expectations; positively motivate the workforce

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, and manufacturing industry
  • Proficiency with blueprints and drawing interpretation
  • Business and EWA travel to other shipyards/strategic partner locations is required
  • Required to work other than normal duty hours, to include shift work, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Proficient in MS Suite (Excel, Project, VISIO)

Preferred:

  • 1+ year of industrial marine environment experience
  • Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Relevant formal training or education
  • Military service
  • Welding and Fitting experience in maritime environment

Skills

  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask within a constantly changing environment

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including technical correspondence
  • Strong communicator with the ability to balance priorities
  • Experience with MDDs, SDDs and DI’s

  • Computer skills in MS Word, MS Project, Excel & Power Point
  • The candidate must possess strong analytical, causal analysis, communication, organizational, planning, and writing skills under minimal supervision
  • The successful candidate will be expected to know, comply with and participate in site improvement goals for Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Continuous Improvement
