Overview
The Manufacturing Rework Technician performs skilled manual rework, repair, and refurbishment of lithium battery packs, wire harnesses, electronic assemblies, and other products, as needed. This role focuses on resolving nonconformances, warranty returns, and build defects in accordance with documented rework instructions, engineering direction, and quality requirements.
The Quality Rework Technician is accountable for executing repair and rework activities accurately, safely, and efficiently while maintaining full traceability and documentation. This position works closely with Quality, Engineering, Production, and Product Support teams to restore product conformance and support continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Rework, Repair & Refurbishment
- Perform rework and repair of lithium battery packs, wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and electronic assemblies
- Diagnose workmanship‑related defects and perform corrective repairs in accordance with approved rework instructions
- Execute soldering, crimping, component replacement, mechanical reassembly, testing, and functional verification
- Read and follow work instructions, engineering dispositions, drawings, and assembly prints
- Use a variety of hand tools and equipment including soldering equipment, crimping tools, torque wrenches, cutters, and test equipment
Quality & Nonconformance Support
- Be accountable for the quality, quantity, and inspection of rework activities performed
- Complete Nonconforming Material Reports (NCMRs) and document rework actions accurately
- Perform quality checks on reworked product prior to release
- Support containment activities to protect production and customers
- Assist Quality and Engineering in identifying root causes of defects and recurring issues
Warranty, RMA & Systems Support
- Process rework, warranty, and refurbishment transactions in Expandable and other systems as required
- Support Product Support Group activities related to RMA and returned product packs
- Log work and labor accurately using Smartsheet or designated tracking systems
- Submit parts requests and maintain traceability of materials used during rework
Cross‑Functional Support
- Assist Production as needed during rework surges or containment events
- Provide technical feedback to Engineering and Quality related to failure modes and rework trends
- Provide advisory support to supervisors, team leads, and department management regarding rework concerns and improvement opportunities
Training & Continuous Improvement
- Train and support co‑workers on approved rework procedures and best practices
- Participate in activities supporting continuous improvement, error prevention, and workmanship quality
- Identify recurring defects and communicate improvement opportunities to Quality and Engineering
Safety, 5S & Professional Standards
- Maintain clean, organized work areas in accordance with 5S standards
- Practice safe work habits and report unsafe conditions immediately
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety requirements
- Maintain punctuality, reliability, and acceptable attendance
- Follow all company policies, Quality System processes, and safety guidelines
Other Requirements
- Physical presence on the job is required, including weekends or holidays when business needs dictate
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Management Responsibilities
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on assembly, repair, or rework experience
- Lithium battery pack, electronics, or harness rework experience strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong ability to read and follow rework instructions, engineering dispositions, and drawings
- Advanced hands‑on experience with soldering, crimping, testing, and mechanical reassembly
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workmanship quality
- Ability to troubleshoot and execute repairs independently
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced manufacturing and rework environment
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong sense of accountability and ownership for repaired product
