Manufacturing Operator- Stitcher

Join the Bindery team at Sheridan Lebanon Junction as a Manufacturing Operator. In this role, you’ll lead the setup, adjustment, and operation of stitcher-based bindery lines and finishing equipment to produce high-quality magazines, catalogs, manuals, and other stitched products.

You’ll play an important role in keeping production safe, efficient, and on schedule while providing technical guidance and support to your line crew.

What You’ll Do

  • Set up, adjust, and operate saddle stitchers, bindery equipment, and delivery systems.
  • Configure and fine-tune machine pockets to minimize stops, drops, and production interruptions.
  • Set and monitor machine calipers to maintain consistent product quality.
  • Set up, adjust, and repair stitcher heads as needed.
  • Change and adjust trimmer knives.
  • Inspect mechanical components and identify parts requiring repair or replacement.
  • Lead stitcher production lines by coordinating workstations, machine attachments, and production functions.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure proper functionality and safe operation.
  • Perform mechanical and operational adjustments to achieve accurate stitching, trimming, and finished-product quality.
  • Train, guide, and support line crew members throughout production.
  • Ensure team members follow PPE requirements, safety procedures, and quality standards.
  • Monitor job quality, machine output, and productivity, troubleshooting issues and taking corrective action when needed.
  • Read and interpret job tickets, layouts, and written instructions.
  • Apply knowledge of paper characteristics—including weight, size, grain direction, moisture, and curl—to optimize machine settings.
  • Use standard and specialized tools to maintain equipment accuracy and performance.
  • Support complex or non-standard stitcher configurations for custom products.
  • Perform general machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and understand dimensional requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of ink jet, stacker, and Arpac equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow written job instructions, including machine operation sequence.
  • Strong knowledge of stitcher setup, adjustment procedures, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Thorough understanding of bindery operations, including stitching, folding, collating, cutting, drilling, and binding/gluing.
  • Basic math skills, including decimals and metric units.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and specialized tools.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements and proper PPE use.
  • Ability to effectively lead and collaborate with a production team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of bindery experience, including stitcher setup and operation.
  • Previous experience leading or training production crew members.
  • Previous experience operating machinery and troubleshooting mechanical issues.

Physical Requirements

This position requires:

  • Ability to exert 20–50 lbs. of force occasionally, 10–25 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. constantly.
  • Ability to lift 20–50 lbs. occasionally, 10–25 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. constantly.
  • Frequent reaching, including overhead reaching.
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Working in a loud production environment.
  • Continuous use of required PPE.
