As an Asphalt Plant Manufacturing Operator, you’ll be part of the Asphalt Plant Team responsible for safely and efficiently producing quality asphalt to meet customer demand. You’ll operate and monitor plant and equipment, carry out basic maintenance and cleaning, and support a strong safety and team culture on site.

This role suits someone who enjoys a hands-on environment, can work to production targets, and takes pride in getting quality work done safely.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

You will safely operate and monitor the asphalt plant to meet production and quality targets while minimising waste and downtime. You’ll complete calibration checks, routine cleaning, basic maintenance and general plant duties as required, following all safety, environmental and quality procedures. You’ll provide friendly, professional service to customers, work well with your team, communicate clearly, and take part in training to build and use your skills on the job.

Hours Of Work

This role typically operates on a rotating roster:

  • Monday to Friday days
  • Sunday to Thursday nights

with occasional weekend work (Saturday mornings and/or Sunday afternoons).

There is also occasional 24-hour on-call work, so flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing schedules is essential.

  • Operate the asphalt plant in line with standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Ensure production volumes and quality meet customer and specification requirements.
  • Carry out monthly calibration checks on cold feed bins.
  • Monitor plant performance so the plant is not running empty and wastage is kept at or below target levels.
  • Undertake routine plant and equipment cleaning and basic maintenance.
  • Complete general duties around the plant and yard as directed by the Supervisor or Department Manager.

  • Clear communication skills
  • Basic computer skills for system checks and data entry.
  • Experience with plant operation and basic trouble-shooting (preferred).
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions and work documents.
  • Current Class 2 driver licence preferred
