Manufacturing Manager
The Manufacturing Manager provides leadership to attain budgeted economic objectives while meeting customer requirements. The Manufacturing Manager will also demonstrate competency in managing change and drive continuous improvement in a commercial print related manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Work is typically performed under general supervision, receiving guidance from the manager or supervisor regarding work that needs to be completed and how to complete certain assignments. This role exercises a high level of discretion and latitude in completing tasks and prioritizing work while following established policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership and management to ensure the direction of the assigned department is aligned with Company and Division objectives.
- Provide leadership to the workforce in attaining budget objectives and achieving high performance in customer satisfaction, quality, employee relations, safety, asset utilization, and productivity.
- Create plans to meet aggressive goals by providing teams with the appropriate tools and training while establishing accountability for results throughout assigned areas.
- Develop and maintain an effective, engaged workforce through performance leadership, education, communication, and policies that support diversity and team effectiveness.
- Ensure the use of ethical business practices when working with customers, employees, vendors, suppliers, and the community.
- Promote safe working conditions through equipment maintenance, housekeeping, and enforcement of proper safety practices.
- Analyze and resolve work related problems or assist Supervisors and employees in solving problems.
- Monitor production and provide guidance in troubleshooting problem areas.
- Develop procedures and techniques to reduce process variation and manufacturing delays.
- Develop and manage department budgets while understanding the impact of operational decisions. Control costs and expenses within budgeted tolerances.
- Assist the team in improving processes by collecting data, using statistical process control and related software, and performing analysis.
- Coach Supervisors to develop leadership and teamwork skills.
- Coordinate with Supervisors and Human Resources regarding annual performance appraisals and positive counseling or disciplinary actions.
- Promote collaboration across all departments to build a culture of continuous improvement throughout the company.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of proven success in a supervisory or managerial role within the printing industry.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with Sales, Customers, and Manufacturing.
- Strong negotiation and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement processes and principles.
- Demonstrated ability to lead quality initiatives that ensure customer satisfaction.
- Flexible, proactive self starter with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic team environment.
- Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization and successfully lead others through change.
- Demonstrated commitment to holding self and others accountable for individual and team business results while fostering an inclusive work environment.
- Experience with strategic planning and resource deployment.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Sound judgment, business acumen, and strategic thinking.
Desired Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed partially in an office environment with no exposure to the elements. Some time is spent in the plant with exposure to dust, dirt, noise, fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals.
- The position requires frequent sitting, walking, and moderate physical effort.
- Must be able to stand on a concrete floor three to four days per week while performing certain tasks.
- Must be able to lift and carry signatures weighing up to 10 pounds for inspections.
- Minimal travel for company meetings may be required, including occasional overnight stays.
