Job Description

The Manufacturing Layout Engineer is responsible for designing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing and facility layouts that support efficient production operations. This role collaborates closely with manufacturing, process, program, and industrial engineering teams to develop layout solutions that optimise workflow, equipment placement, material movement, safety, and space utilisation.

The position supports new program launches, process improvements, equipment installations, and facility expansion initiatives through layout planning, CAD design, stakeholder coordination, and project execution.

Layout Planning & Development

  • Develop and evaluate manufacturing, warehouse, and facility layout concepts to support operational requirements.
  • Create and analyse multiple layout scenarios to support feasibility studies and programme planning.
  • Design and modify layouts to improve material flow, productivity, safety, and floor-space utilisation.
  • Support non-production support area planning using approved process templates and standards.
  • Prepare visual presentations and layout reviews for project teams and stakeholders.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead regular layout review meetings and track action items.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, process, programme, maintenance, and industrial engineering teams.
  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers to ensure layout compatibility and installation requirements are met.
  • Communicate layout concerns, design changes, and project requirements with plant personnel and project stakeholders.
  • Support issue resolution related to equipment placement, facility constraints, and operational requirements.

Engineering Documentation & Design

  • Develop and maintain 2D layout drawings using AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.
  • Create, review, and update engineering drawings in accordance with company standards and project requirements.
  • Conduct field verification activities to ensure layout accuracy and alignment with installation requirements.
  • Support equipment installation activities through timely release and update of layout documentation.
  • Maintain drawing records and project documentation within designated document management systems.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure layouts comply with safety, ergonomic, environmental, and manufacturing standards.
  • Participate in risk assessments and safety reviews related to facility modifications and equipment installations.

Follow all company and site safety requirements while working within manufacturing facilities.

Education

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Production Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Or a related engineering discipline

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, facility layout planning, or industrial engineering.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing facility expansions, equipment installations, or layout optimisation projects.
  • Experience working in automotive, engine, powertrain, or high-volume manufacturing environments preferred.

Technical Skills

Required

  • AutoCAD proficiency (2018 or newer preferred)
  • Manufacturing layout planning and space utilisation analysis
  • Material flow and facility optimisation
  • Engineering drawing interpretation and creation
  • Problem-solving and root cause analysis
  • Project coordination and cross-functional collaboration

Preferred

  • Experience with 3D layout development tools
  • Knowledge of engine assembly or powertrain manufacturing processes
  • Experience with manufacturing automation systems
  • Familiarity with PLM/document management systems (e.g., Vault)
  • Knowledge of programme launch and equipment installation processes
