Manufacturing IT Technician
Job Purpose
The Manufacturing IT / OT Specialist ensures the continuous availability and optimal performance of production equipment and associated systems related to Manufacturing IT / Industrial Control Systems used across Production, Laboratories, Warehouse, and Site operations at Bayer Costa Rica sites.
This role combines hands-on technical expertise with systems-level troubleshooting to reduce downtime, maintain product quality, and meet business and user requirements. The position contributes to operational excellence by maintaining equipment and system integrity, supporting production goals, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
The role works closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, implement enhancements, and support the transition to more automated and digital solutions. In addition, the position supports validation activities, develops and maintains technical documentation, and applies best practices in both equipment maintenance and system management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage service operations at shopfloor level for Manufacturing IT / OT / Industrial Control Systems and related applications, such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Track & Trace, laboratory systems, manufacturing IT tools, and production-related equipment
- Provide operational support for equipment used in production environments, including packaging lines, manufacturing lines, laboratory systems, tools, and fixtures involved in product assembly.
- Work in close proximity to production lines and equipment that may experience wear, damage, or malfunction, potentially causing scrap increases, production delays, rework, or documentation needs.
- Monitor and analyze departmental KPIs, metrics, and performance targets through data collection and tracking to support continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Support the transition from manual activities to automated solutions in areas such as:
- user management
- backup and restore
- virus scanning
- patch management
- data engineering on interfaces
- OPC connectivity
- remote maintenance
- Support business operations improvement through the implementation and execution of efficient and automated shopfloor processes in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering and the Digital Lead
- Support equipment qualification activities, including protocol preparation, documentation, and execution, to maintain validated equipment status and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Provide operational support, troubleshooting, and user guidance/training to internal stakeholders across Production, Laboratories, Warehouse, and Site functions
- Collaborate with the Manufacturing IT team, site Manufacturing Engineering, and the Digital Lead in executing routine activities, developing procedures, and maintaining effective operational processes.
- Coordinate external service providers to ensure process execution in line with system availability expectations and agreed service level targets.
- Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation related to systems, processes, qualifications, and support activities.
- Contribute to maintaining compliance with applicable quality, validation, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications
- Technical High School diploma, technical diploma, or technical degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
- 0–1 year of experience in a specialist or technical support role in a customer-facing IT environment
- Exposure to or foundational experience with Manufacturing IT / OT / Equipment IT environments rather than traditional IT-only infrastructures.
Skills and Experience
- Basic knowledge of Manufacturing IT / OT systems, industrial environments, and production-related technologies.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues in operational and manufacturing environments.
- Understanding of equipment and systems support within production, laboratory, or warehouse operations
- Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders in a dynamic shopfloor setting.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.
- Ability to support validation, compliance, and regulated processes.
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to track KPIs and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Good communication skills and ability to provide operational support and user guidance.
- Willingness to work in close interaction with manufacturing equipment and production processes.
- Interest in automation, digitalization, and continuous improvement of shopfloor operations.
