The Manufacturing Engineering Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing equipment used in assembly processes. This role ensures maximum uptime, quality, and throughput of production lines by performing preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, and process monitoring.

What you’ll do

Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions to restore production.
  • Support production teams in resolving equipment-related issues.
  • Maintain and repair conveyors, assembly equipment, SMT equipment, test systems, robots, and other manufacturing machinery as applicable.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Install, modify, and improve manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, spare parts usage, and downtime events.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, OSHA regulations, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance parts and recommend spare parts requirements.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Support new equipment installations and production line expansions.

Manufacturing Engineering Support

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers in developing and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput.
  • Support production line balancing, time studies, capacity analysis, and labor optimization activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and update work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and visual aids.
  • Assist with equipment validation, qualification, and production readiness activities.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives including 5S, Kaizen events, waste reduction, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Collect and analyze production data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in designing and implementing tooling, fixtures, jigs, and workstation improvements.
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) and manufacturing process launches.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Operations, and Engineering teams to resolve production issues.
  • Participate in PFMEA, Control Plan, and corrective action activities.
  • Assist with ergonomics improvements and workplace safety initiatives.
  • Generate and maintain engineering documentation, equipment records, and process specifications.
  • Support automation projects and manufacturing technology upgrades.

What you need

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Associate degree in Electronics or related technical field preferred.

  • 3-5 years of experience of equipment maintenance.

    • Preferred 2+ years of experience working with SMT production equipment in electronics manufacturing.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic).

  • Experience with SMT line equipment such as:

    • Pick & Place (Fuji, Juki, Mydata/Mycronic, Panasonic, etc.)

    • Screen Printers (DEK, MPM)

    • Reflow Ovens (Heller, Vitronics)

    • AOI/SPI (Koh Young, CyberOptics, Mirtec)

  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.

  • Proficiency using basic hand tools and precision measurement tools.

  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint;

  • General experience with production machinery and maintenance for small or light industrial equipment;

  • Please note due to the requirements from the Department of Energy, U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED;

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and reach for extended periods throughout the workday.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and around moving mechanical parts.

  • Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate tools, controls, and precision instruments.

  • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, arms, and shoulders.

  • Ability to visually inspect equipment, including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel‑toed shoes, and fall protection.
