What to Expect

The Manufacturing Engineer, Vehicle Engineering, will be responsible for developing manufacturing equipment and processes from concept initialization through high-volume ramp phases.

The Manufacturing Engineer will be a hands-on contributor in ensuring new production equipment immediately meets productivity requirements as well as developing new high intellectual property processes.

In addition to developing manufacturing equipment and processes, Manufacturing Engineers work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. They will work closely with Design Engineering, Quality and Production to take design changes, new model designs and manufacturing efficiency improvements from initial concept through prototype development and into full production.

What You’ll Do

• Develop new manufacturing processes including process sequence, establish critical process parameters and process recipe
• In-house development of workstations, manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds
• Design, procurement, construction, integration and deployment of manufacturing automation equipment and fixtures for medium and high-volume production ensuring ergonomics and efficiency goals are met
• Management of suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment
• Propose flexible, modular solutions adaptable to diverse factory environments, and collaborate with Construction and EHS teams to ensure safety throughout the design, installation, and operational phases
• Training of technicians and line operators in manufacturing processes
• Perform process analysis, including DOE, PFMEA, line balancing, capacity modeling/simulation, and DFM input to the design team for process and yield improvements

What You’ll Bring

• Hands-on proficiency with 2D CAD tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D modeling for mechanical equipment, fixture, and tooling (CATIA preferred)
• Proficiency with GD&T and Tolerance Stack-up Analysis
• Understanding the introduction of new equipment and new processes into a production environment
• Creating detailed equipment documentation and technical specifications for manual and automated manufacturing equipment
• Familiarity with conveyance systems, transducer-based fastening (Atlas Copco preferred), robotics (Fanuc preferred), laser welding, or automated functional testing
• Experience in an Automotive JIT environment with exposure to Interior, Exterior or Chassis components
• Degree Mechanical, Mechatronic, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
