What You Will Do

  • Provide day-to-day technical and process leadership for PM14, a swing paper machine producing tissue, towel, and napkin products, with a focus on improving safety, quality, reliability, productivity, and overall machine performance.
  • Partner closely with paper machine operators and production leadership to troubleshoot process and equipment issues, identify sources of variability, and develop sustainable solutions that reduce downtime, waste, quality defects, and recurring operating losses.
  • Build the capability of operating crews by translating paper-making and process knowledge into practical operator training, troubleshooting procedures, standard operating practices, and clear operating expectations that improve consistency across crews and shifts.
  • Analyze paper machine operating data, process trends, equipment performance, and production losses to identify improvement opportunities and establish optimal operating conditions. Use tools such as PI Vision, where applicable, to support data-driven decisions.
  • Lead root cause analysis and structured problem solving for chronic and significant paper machine issues, partnering with operations, maintenance, reliability, quality, and engineering resources to identify causes, implement corrective actions, and verify that improvements are sustained.
  • Develop and optimize machine operating strategies, standard work, and process controls that improve consistency through grade changes, startups, shutdowns, product transitions, and normal operating conditions across PM14’s tissue, towel, and napkin production.
  • Partner with maintenance and reliability teams to identify equipment reliability opportunities, prioritize corrective work, plan machine outages, and improve the effectiveness of maintenance activities that affect paper machine availability and performance.
  • Provide technical leadership for machine trials, raw material changes, product and quality improvements, equipment modifications, capital projects, and startups. Establish trial plans, evaluate performance data, document findings, and translate successful trials into sustainable operating practices.
  • Support product quality and process optimization by monitoring critical operating parameters, investigating deviations from specifications, and partnering with quality and operations teams to improve first-quality production and reduce manufacturing waste.
  • Apply Principle-Based Management (PBM) and influential leadership to challenge current practices, share technical knowledge, build ownership within operating teams, and help crews understand not only what operating standards are expected, but why they create value.
