Job Description

Overview

Join the fast-paced manufacturing environment at the Algona Snap-on Plant, solving problems and supporting all departments within the facility. Work with state-of-the-art automation while enjoying a balance of computer/office work and hands-on work. Be challenged working on cross functional teams to improve processes, or while working independently on projects to reduce cost of operations, increase capacity, and reduce waste. Make a lasting difference by contributing to both the short-term & long-term facility plans.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting: Daily support of all manufacturing departments to prevent/minimize equipment downtime
  • Analyze and specify new processes and equipment necessary to accommodate the manufacture of all new and existing products
  • Coordinate outside vendor contract work to ensure outcomes satisfy project goals and budget (supplement in-house machine and process build efforts)
  • Provide financial justification and timelines for new project implementation
  • Lead travel groups of Snap-on employees to observe other facilities and processes – also arrange off-site meetings and equipment runoffs
  • Complete required safety signoffs & ensure proper guarding on new equipment – also provide associate training for new equipment in regard to machine operation, maintenance, and safety
  • Ensure the continued effectiveness of existing assets through preventative maintenance programs and spare parts inventory (work in conjunction with maintenance department)
  • Work closely with Tool & Die department to design and/or purchase tooling and fixtures used to generate production parts
  • Other duties as assigned by the Eng. Manager

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree (BSME preferred)
  • Proficient in computer applications: Microsoft Office, 2D AutoCAD, 3D modeling software (Catia and Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • Proficient in verbal and written technical communications

PREFERENCES

  • Manufacturing plant experience
  • Knowledge of basic sheet metal fabrication techniques and equipment
  • Experience with PLC’s (Programmable Logic Controllers), CNC equipment, powder paint, vision systems, welding, robotics, & other automation
  • Desired characteristics: Integrity, problem solving skills, conscientious, innovative, independent thinker, team player, positive attitude, hard worker
