Job Description

We are looking for a talented Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Rocky Mount, NC. In this role, you will help plan, design, procure, and implement changes to manufacturing equipment and systems that keep our production lines safe, efficient, and aligned with product specifications. Working alongside cross-functional teams and external partners, you will apply core manufacturing engineering principles — from PFMEA and process documentation to error proofing, tool and fixture design, and capital project management — to bring new processes online and continuously improve existing ones.

You will build your command of Cummins manufacturing standards while contributing hands-on to line changes, Transformation initiatives, and post-launch (infant care) support. Success in this role comes from strong problem-solving, the ability to interpret engineering drawings, and a data-driven mindset that uses modeling and simulation tools to validate changes before they reach the floor — all while championing health, safety, and ergonomic design in everything you build.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Deliver manufacturing process changes that meet safety, quality, and product specification requirements across the production line.
  • Drive continuous improvement by applying waste-reduction and process-optimization methodologies that lower cost and raise quality.
  • Support Transformation initiatives and line changes, ensuring new equipment and processes launch smoothly and stabilize quickly.
  • Safeguard product quality by conducting PFMEAs and producing clear, sequential process documentation that stakeholders can follow consistently.
  • Strengthen equipment reliability through error-proofing setups and thoughtful tool and fixture design that hold parts securely and prevent defects.
  • Manage capital projects from equipment selection through implementation, procuring solutions that meet Cummins specifications and program needs.
  • Reduce workplace risk by designing ergonomic workstations that balance safety, cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Resolve manufacturing issues at the root cause using systematic, data-based problem-solving that prevents recurrence and protects the customer.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • A foundation in manufacturing engineering principles and the ability to apply them to real equipment, processes, and continuous improvement efforts on the plant floor.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret engineering drawings and use modeling and simulation tools to make data-driven decisions.
  • Working knowledge of core manufacturing tools and methods such as PFMEA, process documentation, error proofing, and capital project management.
  • A proactive commitment to health, safety, and ergonomic design, paired with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams and external partners.

Key Competencies:

  • Collaborates: Builds partnerships and works effectively across teams to achieve shared objectives.
  • Communicates Effectively: Tailors clear, multi-mode communication to the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Health and Safety Fundamentals: Models proactive safety behaviors and helps build an interdependent, injury-free culture.
  • Values Differences: Recognizes and leverages the value that diverse perspectives and backgrounds bring to the organization.
