The manufacturing engineer, will work with a multidisciplinary team to manufacture space products used in state-of-the-art satellites.

He or she participates in product design and ensures the product’s manufacturability (Design for Manufacturing) by working out compromises with the various members of the design team. The goal is to meet the client’s requirements and specifications while ensuring the ability to build a reliable, long-term product at an optimal cost.

He also supports production during the manufacturing phase as part of a dynamic production team. The process engineer ensures cross-program coordination of the assembly, integration, and testing operations for our space products. He ensures the high quality of the product and documentation throughout the entire production chain, while meeting deadlines and staying within budget.

For various projects, the engineer is responsible for ensuring effective communication among the production, program management, design, testing, quality assurance, and other teams. As the technical lead, the engineer must:

  • Support SMT assembly manufacturing equipment (printer, placement, reflow, BGA rework)
Lead and support the qualification of various programs to ensure that products meet the mission’s environmental requirements in terms of long-term reliability
  • Coordinate the various aspects of assembly: procurement, inventory, operations planning, and workforce planning
Manage the test sequence and ensure “readiness”: preparation of fixtures (GSE), support, and compliance of results, in close collaboration with the planning team
  • Enforce quality assurance and safety plans
  • Develop and qualify new assembly processes to reduce the costs of space products

In addition to overseeing projects, the engineer actively participates in the continuous improvement of the various production departments (electronics manufacturing, purchasing, and supply chain) and actively collaborates with the design and testing teams, among others. Continuous improvement involves optimizing tasks, selecting, evaluating, and qualifying new equipment, implementing corrective actions, and qualifying new processes, products, and subcontractors. The engineer also contributes to the implementation and monitoring of the “Lean Manufacturing” and “Design for Manufacturing (DFM)” philosophies.

  • Determine the strategy for assembling and integrating the units produced
  • Coordinate daily activities in the laboratories (may be called upon to act as the manager’s operational representative and to set short-term assignment priorities)
  • Ensure communication among the various stakeholders (technical design authorities, technologists, planners, quality assurance, management, from one shift to the next, etc.)
  • Continuously review production and testing processes
  • Improve quality and safety in production and testing areas
  • Participate in identifying and resolving nonconformities and implementing corrective actions
  • Establish production schedules (supply, labor, equipment, etc.)
  • Participate in the development and improvement of the supply chain, and support component supplier monitoring activities
  • Establish production metrics, analyze variances, identify gaps, and implement improvements
  • Participate in technical program reviews (TOB) to ensure production requirements are met in designs
  • Represent the production team during MRBs
  • Approve and suggest improvements to assembly documents and work orders
  • Control costs
  • Support electronic assembly production. Support SMT and other electronic board manufacturing processes. (SMT, PTH, board repair, board cleaning, polymer coating, etc.)
  • Participate in the selection and purchase of new manufacturing equipment
  • Other related tasks

Minimum qualifications required:

The candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to make quick decisions
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership when interacting with technical teams and program management teams
  • Knowledge of project management
  • Ability to solve a wide range of diverse challenges
  • Dynamic, proactive, detail-oriented, and considerate of others
  • Bilingual (French/English)

Assets:

  • Experience in mechanical and electronic production/design, preferably in:
    • Design and manufacture of electronic circuit boards
    • Knowledge of IPC610/JSTD-001 and/or NASA-8739-01/02/03/04 standards
