As a Manufacturing Engineer with the Nidec Aerospace team, you will have the opportunity to apply and develop your expertise to support the manufacturing of propulsion systems for battery-powered aircraft that will enable the world to sustainably and efficiently get from point A to point B.

From ideation to production, you will work with a diverse and experienced team of design engineers to support aerospace industry leaders and spearhead technological advances in transport decarbonization. 

Asa Manufacturing Engineer,your rolewouldfocusondesigning, improving, andoptimizingmanufacturing processes to ensure efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective production. They work closely with design, production, and quality teams to enhance product manufacturability, streamline workflows, and implement automation where necessary.

The engineer will play a key role in manufacturing industrialization activities, process development, equipmentselection, process validation, and continuous improvement initiatives for aerospace electricmotors

The individualis responsible for

Process Design and Improvement:

  • Develop, implement, andoptimizemanufacturing processes for electrical motors, ensuring compliance with aerospace industry standards.

  • Verify, evaluate, and select manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, jigs, and poka-yoke systems to support production requirements and process robustness.

  • Develop manufacturing layouts, process flow diagrams, line balancing activities, and material flow strategies tooptimizemanufacturing operations.

  • Conduct time studies, cycle time analysis, takt time calculations, capacity analysis, and bottleneck identification to improve operational efficiency

  • Analyze and improve production workflows, equipment, and tooling to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Support automation and semi-automation implementation initiatives where applicable.

Project Management:

  • Lead and support engineering projects from conception through production, including process development, equipmentselection, and troubleshooting.

  • Coordinate equipment suppliers, integrators, contractors, and cross-functional teams during equipment development and implementation phases.

  • Support new product introduction (NPI), prototype builds, pilot runs, and production ramp-up activities.

  • Be available for temporary domestic and international travel or relocation assignments based on project and business needs.

Quality Assurance:

  • Establish and monitor quality control measures to ensure products meet aerospace quality standards and specifications.

  • Supportqualitydepartment on investigating and resolving quality issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions as needed.

  • Develop and maintain PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, SOPs, and Work Instructions.

  • Perform process validations including IQ/OQ/PQ, capability studies, MSA, and SPC implementation whererequired

  • Participate in APQP/PPAP activities and manufacturing readiness reviews when applicable.

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical support and training to production staff to ensure proper operation and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and process issues to minimize downtime andmaintainproduction schedules.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Develop andmaintaintechnical documentation, including process instructions, work instructions, and process control plans.

  • Create andmaintainmanufacturing standards, process specifications, equipment validation documentation, and technical reports

  • Prepare and present reports on process performance, project status, and improvement initiatives.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement solutions to address manufacturing challenges and inefficiencies.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies in all manufacturing processes.

  • Promote a culture of safety and adhere to best practices in all engineering and manufacturing activities.

Technical Attributes and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment used in electrical motor productionwith experienceon equipment validation, process development, and production line implementation.

  • Proficiencyin CAD software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and other engineering tools.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, line balancing, ergonomics, and poka-yoke implementation.

  • Familiarity with PFMEA, Control Plans, SOPs, Work Instructions, SPC, MSA, and process validation methodologies.

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to make technical decisions independently and escalate appropriately whenrequired

  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and multinational stakeholders, including teams from Japan,Brazil,Mexico, and the United States.

  • Self-motivatedindividualswith strong ownership mindset, accountability, organization, and adaptability.

  • Strong negotiation, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

MinimumRequirements (proficiencylevels aligned to job level)

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, ora relatedfield.

  • Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Green/Black Belt) are a plus.

  • Minimum of7years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in aerospace or a related high-tech industry.

  • Hands-on experience with electrical motor manufacturing processes, including assembly, testing, and quality control.

  • Proficiencyin English Visa and Passportrequired

  • Japanese communication skills are highly preferred.Preferred Japanese level: N3 or above.

  • Traveland temporarilyrelocatedomestically or internationally based on project requirements.
