OF POSITION
The Manufacturing Engineer (NPI) at Northstar takes a leadership role in executing business goals, programs, and processes within new product introduction. Leveraging their experience, this role is responsible for the design of the Engineering process planning to meet all dimensional requirements of the customer end part. This individual will be responsible for successful product realization including product validation and verification. As part of the Northstar's Engineering Department, the Manufacturing Engineer (NPI) reports to the Engineering Manager and collaborates with employees across all organizational levels. While not directly supervising other employees, this pivotal role reflects an elevated level of responsibility and expertise within the team to launch new product successfully with good quality, on time and on budget to the customer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Take ownership of the full NPI process for parts assigned.
Lead the cross-functional team for NPI implementation on your parts.
Develop Manufacturing process using 3D models to define each manufacturing sequence.
Conduct a design review with key stakeholders to identify potential manufacturing defects.
Perform PFMEA (if applicable by the customer) and implement corrective actions.
Develop in-process drawings and inspection plan to provide process control.
Assist in the development of CNC code with emphasis on error free output, using verification and stock analysis tools.
Design and develop tooling to support the manufacturing process.
Read and interpret blueprints, symbols and geometric tolerances based on military and commercial specifications.
Provide manufacturing support to shop floor personnel in manufacturing of new product.
Develop and maintain the production shop floor travelers.
Investigate and correct quality issues related to the new product.
Serve as technical liaison with customer engineering and quality personnel.
Apply LEAN principles at an advanced level to define critical requirements and design processes around those principles.
Assure designs and processes align strategically with the overall business strategy and production needs.
Conduct advanced cost/benefit analysis for changes to processes and/or equipment.
Ensure processes significantly contribute to a safe work environment.
Develop accurate standards for manufacturing process.
Support in the quoting effort for new quote requests that are received.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE SKILLS REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

Education Required: BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
Experience Required: Minimum of 10+ years of industry experience, preferable in aerospace.
Heat Treat experience is desired.
Plating experience is desired.
High precision machining experience and manufacturing process creation.
Project management skills
Working knowledge of GD&T
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques, Quality System, and SPC tools
Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications.
Ability to use CAD to design fixtures and in process drawings, NX preferred.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound independent judgment on matters.
Ability to work as part of a team with little or no supervision.
Strong problem-solving skills
Strong computer skills are required. Microsoft Office products used daily.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in self-directed and team environment.
Strong work ethic
