POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manufacturing Cost Accountant partners closely with Operations, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance to maintain accurate product costing and support manufacturing decision-making. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining standard costs, labor rates, overhead absorption rates, routing costs, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variance analysis. The position plays a key role in ensuring product costs accurately reflect manufacturing processes and operational realities.

This is an onsite position located in Holland, MI. It is not open to hybrid or remote work at this time.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Maintain and update standard costs for manufactured products.
  • Perform annual and interim standard cost rolls.
  • Analyze the impact of changes in labor standards, material costs, routings, manufacturing methods, and overhead allocation methodologies.
  • Support new product costing and profitability analysis.
  • Support labor and overhead rate development by determining and maintaining direct labor rates and burdened labor rates, calculating manufacturing overhead absorption rates, analyzing actual versus standard labor and overhead spending, and assessing labor utilization and capacity impacts on product costs.
  • Review and validate manufacturing routings and work center assumptions, evaluating routing changes and impact on product margins.
  • Partner with Operations and Industrial Engineering to understand labor content and assumptions, machine utilization, cycle times, and staffing assumptions.
  • Support implementation of labor and overhead costing within ERP routing structures, inventory valuation, month-end close, cycle count, and physical inventory reviews
  • Analyze manufacturing variances including labor, material, purchase price, scrap, yield, and overhead absorption.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP inventory costing requirements.
  • Prepare financial analysis including monthly manufacturing performance reporting, and support budgeting, forecasting, and annual operating plan processes.
  • Analyze product and customer profitability and identify cost reduction opportunities and operational improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing cost accounting experience.
  • Current and uninterrupted legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Experience in a standard-costing environment.
  • Experience calculating labor and overhead rates.
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting and manufacturing variances.
  • Advanced Excel skills.

WHAT WILL HELP

  • ERP experience (Oracle, SAP, JDE, QAD, Epicor, etc.).
  • Experience working with routings, BOMs, and work centers.
  • Experience partnering with Industrial Engineering and Operations teams.
  • Exposure to automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
  • CMA certification or pursuit of CMA preferred.
