Job Description

  • The primary objective of the Lead Automation Engineer at Grifols Egypt for Plasma Derivatives is
  • to oversee and enhance the automation systems within the plasma derivatives production facility.
  • This role is crucial in ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and safety of automated processes,
  • contributing to the overall productivity and quality of the manufacturing operations. This includes
  • developing and implementing automation procedures, creating maintenance plans, performing
  • complex adjustments to meet specific standards, and conducting regular maintenance to keep
  • equipment in optimal condition. The role also involves managing third-party activities, adhering to
  • industry regulations and standards, documenting procedures, maintaining detailed records, and
  • collaborating effectively with other team members to ensure the accuracy of automation.
  • Additionally, the Lead Automation Engineer will lead a small team of technicians, providing
  • guidance and support to ensure high-quality performance.
  • Environment
  • Internal and external interactions i.e.: with other departments/divisions, international scope,
  • providers, customers)
  • Internal: GEPD management members, manufacturing, quality & service divisions.
  • External: In absence of Maintenance Manager, equipment suppliers, Health Authorities,
  • government authorities and auditors.

Key responsibility

  • Strong collaboration with Grifols Engineering staff (mainly Automation Team) and Industrial
  • IT for starting up Industrial Infrastructure and Automation communications.
  • Be an active member for project on site meetings and internal coordination.
  • Stay involve in FAT testing in Egypt with local suppliers or designated manufacturing
  • workshops (mainly in Egypt but not excluded).
  • Oversee automation works of different OEMs and system integrators.
  • Coordinate and execute testing (SAT) on site.
  • As built review and documentation updates.
  • Review Code Program (PLC/SCADA/HMI).
  • Elaborate Maintenance Procedures & Other maintenance documentation.
  • On site plan review and local coordination.
  • Define contractual targets and agreements with technology vendors and system integrators.
  • Supporting validation tasks.
  • Provide technical assessment of change controls, deviations, and CAPAs related to the processes
  • developed in GEPD.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of calibration technicians, providing training, guidance, and
  • performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.

Academic experience required

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • A masters degree is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in automation and control systems (e.g., Certified Automation
  • Professional (CAP), Siemens Certified Programmer).
  • Relevant certifications in Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Automation
  • Practices (GAMP).
  • Professional Experience Required
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in automation engineering, preferably within the
  • pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to automation and
  • safety.

Computing Skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge in using maintenance management software systems (SAP PM or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, HMI interfaces, and industrial
  • networking.
  • Siemens (Simatic PCS7 and Siemens Simatic TIA Portal-PLC/HMI).
  • AVEVA-System Platform.
  • Rockwell /Allen-Bradley PLC.
  • Knowledge OT Cybersecurity IEC62443 and communication networks and Industrial protocols
  • (i.e., IP, Profinet, BACnet, Modbus/TCP, OPC UA).

About Grifols Egypt for Plasma Derivatives (GEPD)

Grifols Egypt for plasma derivatives is a joint-venture (JV) company between the Egyptian Government, through the National Service Projects Organization (NSPO) and Grifols, the global leader in plasma medicines with more than 110 years of contribution to improving the health and well-being of people.

This joint venture is the first of its kind in the plasma industry and the first-ever Egyptian source member of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA). GEPD is a groundbreaking global public-private alliance that will benefit the entire region.

GEPD is committed to developing the plasma medicines market and achieving self-sufficiency in these critical therapies, which is crucial for the Egyptian healthcare system.

We are combining the expertise of both shareholders to build and operate 20 plasma donation centers throughout Egypt, along with manufacturing facilities including fractionation, purification, and fill-and-finish plants with a processing capacity of up to 1 million liters of plasma annually that can double in the future.

The new manufacturing facility will include a plasma warehouse and a testing laboratory. It will occupy 105,000 square meters strategically located in the administrative capital’s medical city, adjoining various healthcare institutions.
