Organization Overview

The Managing Director of Information Technology (MDIT) serves as CFGA’s senior technology leader, responsible for shaping and executing the Foundation’s enterprise technology strategy. This role ensures that systems, data, and digital infrastructure enable CFGA’s mission to advance equity and opportunity across the region.

The MDIT leads a team of four internal IT professionals and manages the organization’s IT Managed Services Provider (MSP), ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable technology operations. A core focus for this role will be leading the implementation of CFGA’s next-generation ERP system, Foundant (CommunitySuite/CSuite + GLM/SLM), to streamline workflows across Finance, Philanthropic Services, Grants & Community Impact, and Impact Investing.

The MDIT brings hands-on back-end systems design expertise (data models, permissions/RBAC, workflow automation, and integration patterns) to translate departmental workflows into reliable, user-friendly solutions. The MDIT partners with the COO as a primary advisor on technology strategy, co-developing options, trade-offs, and board-ready recommendations that balance risk, cost, and impact.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Oversight

  • Develop and execute a multi-year technology roadmap aligned with CFGA’s strategic goals and operational needs.
  • Establish and co-chair an IT Steering Committee to prioritize initiatives, manage risks, and ensure organizational alignment.
  • Serve as a technology thought partner to the COO though framing strategic choices, capabilities, and risk posture; present options/recommendations to Senior Leadership (SLT) and, as needed, the Board.
  • Maintain and continuously improve IT policies, controls, and documentation related to cybersecurity, data governance, and disaster recovery.

ERP & Enterprise Applications (Priority)

  • Lead the full implementation of the Foundant ERP platform, from discovery and design through go-live, stabilization, and continuous improvement, to ensure a scalable system aligned with organizational needs.
  • Architect the ERP’s back-end foundation, including business rule, data models, Role-Based Access (RBA), automated workflows, and integrations that enable secure, efficient, and reliable operations.
  • Integrate the ERP with enterprise systems to create a unified technology ecosystem, streamline data flows, and improve cross-functional visibility.
  • Drive user adoption through targeted training, clear documentation, and structured change-management strategies that maximize system value and minimize resistance.

Data, Reporting & Analytics

  • Design CFGA’s enterprise data architecture to ensure accuracy, consistency, and accessibility across systems.
  • Manage business intelligence solutions to deliver role-based dashboards and reports for leadership, board, and donor insights.
  • Uphold data privacy, retention, and compliance standards consistent with state and federal regulations.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Strengthen CFGA’s cybersecurity posture through proactive management of identity access (SSO/MFA), patching, endpoint protection, and cloud security.
  • Maintain and regularly test business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Ensure IT operations meet compliance, audit, and risk management requirements.

Operations & Managed Services

  • Oversee daily IT operations, including infrastructure, networking, devices, and system performance.
  • Manage the IT Managed Services Provider (MSP) relationship by ensuring adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs), responsiveness, and accountability for performance, security, and cost.
  • Coordinate escalation protocols and periodic performance reviews with the MSP to ensure reliable, user-focused IT support.
  • Partner with the MSP to forecast technology needs, implement upgrades, and optimize CFGA’s cloud and security environment.

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and empower a four-person internal IT team and manage the Managed Service Provider with a leadership approach grounded in trust, accountability, and autonomy, not micromanagement.
  • Cultivate a culture shift where IT is recognized as a strategic partner and innovation enabler, not just a service provider.
  • Drive a team culture that values proactive problem-solving, transparent communication, and continuous learning.
  • Champion change management across the Foundation by clearly communicating the “why,” building buy-in, and supporting staff through transitions.
  • Build strong project management discipline and maturity across the team—balancing structured waterfall-style planning and documentation for large enterprise initiatives (e.g., ERP, infrastructure) with agile, iterative delivery for ongoing enhancements and user-facing improvements.
  • Develop clear success metrics, including ERP/Foundant adoption benchmarks, IT service performance, and user satisfaction.
  • Engage and motivate cross-functional teams by “selling the vision” of enterprise-wide initiatives and securing organizational buy-in.

Budget & Vendor Management

  • Manage the IT operating and capital budgets with transparency and fiscal discipline.
  • Negotiate and oversee contracts with the MSP, software vendors, and implementation partners.
  • Conduct business case analysis and cost-benefit evaluations for major technology investments.



Qualifications

Required

  • 7–10 years of IT leadership overseeing enterprise systems, operations, and strategic technology initiatives to drive organizational growth and efficiency.
  • Proven track record leading full-cycle ERP implementations, including Foundant or similar platforms, from requirements gathering to go-live and optimization.
  • Experienced in managing IT Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and outsourced IT partners to ensure high-quality, reliable service.
  • Deep expertise in back-end systems architecture: data modeling, RBAC/permissions, workflow automation, API/middleware integrations, and release/change management.
  • Skilled in integrating ERP with finance, CRM, and reporting tools to create seamless, data-driven operations.
  • Strong understanding of community foundation and nonprofit operations, including donor-advised funds, grants, scholarships, and investment workflows.
  • In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity, data governance, regulatory compliance, and vendor management.
  • Exceptional communicator capable of translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights for executives, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic advisor with experience co-creating technology strategy with the COO and delivering recommendations to SLT and Board.
  • Proven ability to drive digital transformation and adoption through training, documentation, and change management.
  • Committed to equity, inclusion, and collaborative leadership, fostering high-performing teams with strong emotional intelligence.
  • Experienced in developing technology roadmaps that align with organizational vision and long-term growth objectives.
  • Adept at prioritizing technology investments to maximize ROI and operational impact

Preferred

  • Experience supporting both operating programs and fiscally sponsored entities.
  • Project management certification (PMP, Agile, or equivalent).
  • Change management experience (PROSCI or comparable).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Azure, and cloud-based collaboration environments.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work schedule: On-site at CFGA’s Atlanta office Tuesday–Thursday; remote work on Monday and Friday.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during system cutovers or critical incidents.
  • Some travel to vendor or partner sites as needed.

Other

The Community Foundation operates in a hybrid working environment with staff working in-office three days per week (Tuesday – Thursday) and the opportunity to work two days remote per week if in good standing.

Compensation

To be determined based upon experience and qualifications within the anticipated salary range of $215,000 - $225,000. This position is exempt, and employee is eligible for the Foundation’s competitive health and benefits plan that includes:
