Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.

About the role

ATB Financial is seeking a strategic, execution-oriented leader to serve as Managing Director, Data & AI Governance within our First Line of Defense (1B) Risk & Compliance function. Reporting directly to AVP, CXT Governance & Risk, this role will be responsible for operationalizing and managing ATB’s enterprise Data and AI risk, compliance, and control frameworks to ensure data assets and AI capabilities comply with enterprise risk appetite and regulatory standards.

Accountabilities

  • Operationalize and mature ATB’s enterprise Data Governance Framework and AI Governance Framework, ensuring mutual reinforcement with Information Security, Enterprise Risk Management and AI strategy.
  • Serve as a core 1B operational leader and SME in risk forums, managing Data & AI risk within risk appetite, and managing risk escalation pathways.
  • Ensure enterprise-wide adherence to OSFI Guidelines, DAMA-DMBOK, and FIFAI principles.
  • Oversee core DAMA-DMBOK domains including metadata harvesting, Critical Data Element (CDE) lineage tracking, data classification, data quality monitoring, and data retention/disposition.
  • Collaborate with technical custodians to enforce least-privilege access, dynamic masking, and obfuscation policies across golden-source environments (e.g., DEEP).
  • Establish and report on mandatory AI controls including but not limited to runtime controls for High-Risk Tier Agentic AI systems, enforcing Policy-as-Code (PaC), Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) checkpoints, non-human identity (NHI) scoping, and immutable Write-Once-Read-Many (WORM) trajectory logging.
  • Collaborate with partners to embed shift-left governance into the software development lifecycle using the AI & RAI Canvas, automated risk-tiering, and threat modeling during initial intake and ideation.
  • Partner with Cyber Security and Model Risk Management (MRM) to oversee continuous telemetry, trajectory logging, loop execution limits, and manual kill-switch protocols.
  • Partner with Data & AI teams to support their execution of enterprise AI strategy, education/literacy, and foster a culture of responsible innovation, ethical data use, and proactive risk awareness across all three lines of defense.

Skills, experience & requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Risk Management, Business Administration, Information Management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in data governance, risk management, or AI governance—preferably within the financial services or regulated sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial regulatory guidelines, including OSFI E-21, E-23, B-10, FIFAI, NIST AI RMF, and privacy/data protection standards.
  • Hands-on experience with DAMA-DMBOK, enterprise data catalogs, metadata/lineage platforms (e.g., Collibra), and cloud analytics platforms (e.g., Google Cloud BigQuery/DEEP).
  • Demonstrated understanding of AI lifecycle management, Large Language Models (LLMs), Agentic AI architectures, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and Policy-as-Code (PaC) enforcement.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex risk, compliance, and governance concepts clearly to executive leadership and cross-functional teams.
