The Opportunity

Conexus is building out its San Francisco Bay Area/ New York finance & accounting talent practice, and we're looking for a business development-oriented search professional to join as our second hire. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help shape a practice from its earliest days — with the trajectory, autonomy, and upside that comes with it. You'll work directly alongside the Partner leading the practice, with a clear path to increasing ownership as the team grows.

What You'll Do

• Own business development for interim leadership placements in finance and accounting — identifying target accounts, generating new client relationships, and closing new search engagements.
• Manage search execution from the client side once a search is engaged: intake calls, client relationship management, candidate presentation, offer negotiation, and close. Candidate sourcing and screening are handled by a dedicated recruiting team member.
• Build and nurture a network of hiring clients and finance & accounting decision-makers across the Bay Area market.
• Partner closely with the Practice Lead to expand the practice's client base and deepen existing relationships across the Bay Area market.
• Help establish repeatable processes, market intelligence, and playbooks as an early member of a growing team.
• Represent Conexus at industry events, networking functions, and in the local finance & accounting community.

  What We're Looking For

  We're looking for candidates with the following background:

• Strong business development track record, ideally built in a business development capacity at a finance & accounting interim leadership or search firm, or at a consulting firm. You've built a book of clients and know how to generate and close new business.
• Experience managing search execution from the client side — intake, client relationship management, candidate presentation, and closing — while partnering with a dedicated recruiter for sourcing and screening.
• A track record of success generating and closing finance and accounting search business (controller, FP&A, accounting manager, CFO, or similar roles) is strongly preferred.
• Self-starter mentality — comfortable operating with real autonomy in a lean, early-stage team environment.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills; ability to build trust quickly with both clients and candidates.
• Bay Area market knowledge or existing local network is a plus.
