About ERM

ERM is the world's largest consulting firm specializing exclusively in sustainability. With over 8,000 experts in more than 40 countries, we support leading companies, financial investors, and infrastructure operators in implementing sustainability strategically and operationally – from the board level to technical implementation ("boots to boardroom").

The increasing investment demand in energy, infrastructure, and transformation projects has led to strong growth in our Transaction and Technical Due Diligence business. Against this backdrop, we are further expanding our Infrastructure & M&A Advisory Team.

Your Role

As a Managing Consultant – Technical Due Diligence & M&A, you will work closely with partners, directors, and interdisciplinary teams from the areas of Climate, Sustainability, Transactions, and Low Carbon Solutions. You will support financial investors, infrastructure companies, and energy companies throughout the entire transaction cycle – from initial contact to closing.

Your focus is on the technical and ESG-related evaluation of buy-side, sell-side, and project finance transactions, as well as the sound assessment of technical risks, opportunities, and value drivers in the M&A context.

Your responsibilities

  • Conducting and leading technical due diligence mandates within the framework of M&A, acquisitions, and financing processes (buy-side, sell-side, project finance)
  • Evaluating technical, operational, commercial, and economic aspects of infrastructure and energy assets (e.g., asset condition, performance, Opex/Capex, management and operating concepts, business plans) • Identifying, assessing, and clearly presenting transaction-relevant risks and opportunities (including deal breakers, value creation potential, integration and optimization approaches)
  • Managing and coordinating typical transaction deliverables such as Q&A processes, data room reviews, management interviews, site visits, investor workshops, and due diligence reports
  • Close collaboration with internal colleagues and external subject matter experts for the integrated technical, ESG, and commercial evaluation of target companies and projects
  • Supporting and (co-)responsibility for proposal preparation, scope definition, time and cost calculations, and contract drafting in the transaction context
  • Actively participating in the further development and expansion of our Infrastructure and M&A Services

Your Profile

Essential

  • Completed technical or engineering degree (e.g., mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, or industrial engineering)
  • Several years of professional experience in technical consulting, engineering, asset management, or operation of infrastructure and/or energy projects
  • Experience in due diligence, transaction-related, or M&A-related projects with an understanding of technical, commercial, and economic value drivers
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience in evaluating technical documentation, site visits, and management discussions
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills in dynamic transaction environments
  • Excellent written and spoken in the local language (native) and English

Desirable

  • Prior experience in technical and EHS due diligence, transaction advisory, corporate finance, or M&A consulting
  • Basic understanding of financial models, company valuation, investor requirements, or capital market logic
  • Experience in relevant sectors such as renewable energy, power, fuels and chemicals, grid infrastructure, water & waste, industry, transportation, digital, or social Infrastructure
  • International project experience and additional foreign languages

What we offer

  • Collaboration on challenging national and international M&A and infrastructure transactions with high strategic relevance
  • Close cooperation with leading investors, energy and infrastructure companies
  • An interdisciplinary, collaborative environment with clear development paths and excellent professional training
  • Ongoing training and internal and/or international career progression opportunities
  • Flexible work models (onsite, hybrid, remote), attractive compensation and comprehensive benefits in accordance with the ERM standard in the country where the candidate will be hired.
