We have an opening in our Monmouth Junction, NJ facility for a Manager/Senior Manager, Cost Accounting. Title and salary commensurate with experience. See below

The Cost Accounting Manager/Senior Manager will lead all aspects of product costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing finance for a pharmaceutical operation. This role requires both strong technical execution and critical thinking, including the ability to leverage existing models and ERP data efficiently while proactively identifying and investigating inconsistencies in cost outputs. The ideal candidate has deep experience with Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and overhead allocation methodologies, and partners closely with operations to ensure accurate, actionable cost information

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve standard product costs using BOMs, routings, and ERP system data (materials, labor, and overhead).
  • Design and manage overhead allocation methodologies, including labor and machine-based absorption models.
  • Analyze manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead) and clearly explain drivers to management.
  • Identify inconsistencies or anomalies in cost data (e.g., unexpected labor or batch cost differences) and lead root cause investigations.
  • Partner with operations, supply chain, and engineering to improve cost accuracy, production efficiency, and cost visibility.
  • Prepare and review cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory valuation, and gross margin reporting.
  • Lead inventory accounting processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and support for month-end close.
  • Oversee physical inventory counts and cycle counts, ensuring alignment between ERP and physical inventory.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing and supply chain functions.
  • Analyze scrap, yield, and production efficiency metrics, and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and internal controls.
  • Drive continuous improvement in cost accounting processes, reporting, and systems.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Manager: 5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Senior Manager: 8+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of standard costing, process costing, and overhead allocation methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, JDE, Oracle) including BOMs and routings.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to work efficiently within existing models and datasets.
  • Strong analytical mindset, with the ability to both:
  • Execute mechanically: efficiently and accurately leverage established models and processes
  • Think critically: challenge outputs and investigate results that do not align with operational expectations
  • Knowledge of US GAAP; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to partner cross-functionally with operations and finance teams.

Work Arrangements: We are a HYBRID work environment requiring local candidates to be able to work majority of week in our NJ office

Anticipated salary range: Base salary offered is contingent on assessment of candidate’s education and experience level relative to requirements of the position and a review of related industry standards and internal equity.

Manager Cost Accounting: $125k-150k

Senior Manager Cost Accounting: $150-180k.

Additional benefits: In addition to base salary, full-time employees are also eligible for incentives, including, but not limited to: bonus eligible, medical, dental, vision, Rx insurance, 401K with match, life insurance, paid Company Holidays, PTO, Paid Volunteer Time and Employee Resource Groups.
