The Manager, Workplace Standards & Policy will play a pivotal role in shaping the team‑member experience at American Airlines by building a clear, consistent, and people‑centered policy framework that strengthens our culture of trust, fairness, and inclusion. As a key advisor within the People Division, you’ll guide leaders through complex policy matters while overseeing the evolution of the Jetnet Policy Center to ensure team members can easily access the information they need.   • Lead the development, maintenance, and governance of global HR policies that are clear, practical, enforceable, and aligned with American’s values, strategic objectives, and legal requirements.
  • Ensure policies provide accessible guidance for team members, clearly define leader and team‑member responsibilities, and reflect the latest developments in effective people management.
  • Manage end‑to‑end policy development and update projects, from initial research and drafting through final approval and publication.
  • Conduct scheduled reviews of all corporate policies to ensure they remain current, relevant, and responsive to emerging trends and legislation.
  • Apply an evidence‑based approach to policy development, incorporating behavioral science, benchmarking, organizational data, and stakeholder insights.
  • Provide expert HR policy interpretation and guidance on complex or sensitive matters to drive consistency and mitigate risk across the organization.
  • Partner with HR, Legal, Communications, and business leaders to ensure policy alignment, clarity, and effective implementation.
  • Oversee the Jetnet Policy Center to ensure content is accurate, engaging, and easy for team members to navigate.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Workplace Standards & Support to ensure the policy governance framework meets organizational needs.
  • Manage Workplace Standards & Support personnel responsible for investigating alleged violations of corporate policies, including pass travel abuse.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in HR policy development, compliance, employee relations, or a related HR discipline.

Preferred Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master’s degree in HR, Public Administration, Organizational Development, or related field.
  • Experience working in a large, complex, or highly regulated organization.
  • Familiarity with intranet content management systems and digital experience optimization.
  • Background in policy governance, risk management, or organizational compliance.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional initiatives or policy‑related change‑management efforts.

Skills, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying employment laws and regulations.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, accessible guidance.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast‑paced environment.
