The global Human Resource (HR) Function provides an integrated talent management system that delivers a workforce that is Corning's competitive differentiator in the global marketplace.

Role Purpose

The Workers’ Compensation Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, strategic oversight, and serves as the subject matter expert across the company for Corning Incorporated’s workers’ compensation and post injury and illness management (PIIM) programs. This role provides for operational leadership, vendor oversight, and partnership with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate effective claims management across U.S. operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the workers’ compensation programs, including self-insured and insured structures, for both union and non-union employees
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and best practices related to workers’ compensation
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local workers’ compensation laws, regulations, contractual obligations, and reporting requirements
  • Monitor program performance, analyze loss trends and claims data to identify risks and recommend improvements to reduce claim frequency, severity, and duration
  • Partner with internal Medical, Safety, Human Resources, Legal, and Business Operations contacts to facilitate claims, promote injury prevention and return-to-work practices
  • Lead Corning’s PIIM program across both occupational (workers’ compensation) and non-occupational (disability) illnesses and injuries to support return-to-work, transitional duty, and reasonable accommodation programs consistent with organizational policies
  • Manage audits, regulatory inquiries, and internal reviews related to workers’ compensation
  • Supervise completion of wage statement requests for lost-time claims
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, actuarial analyses, and the accrual/charge-out processes related to workers’ compensation
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and technical expertise to HR staff, managers, and leaders on workers’ compensation considerations
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives involving Location HR, Medical Staff, Plant Safety, Finance, and Employee (labor) Relations

Experiences/Education - Required

  • 5–8 years of progressive experience in workers’ compensation, claims management, risk management, or a related area of program administration
  • Experience managing a complex or high-volume claims environment
  • Desired knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Ability to navigate sensitive employee issues with professionalism and discretion
  • Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and exercise sound judgment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Risk Management, Labor Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

The range for this position is $124,078.00 - $170,608.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
