
The Manager, Web Development leads UQ’s Web Development Team to deliver high‑quality, future‑focused web solutions on the University’s Drupal platforms. Working at the heart of UQ’s digital ecosystem, this role shapes how the University presents itself online, enabling more than 500 website builders to deliver over 150 UQ websites through a scalable, self‑service platform. You will provide strong technical leadership while cultivating a collaborative, inclusive and growth‑oriented environment where developers build capability, confidence and impact together.
Key responsibilities will include:
Leading the analysis, design, development and implementation of complex web‑based systems across UQ’s Drupal platforms, ensuring reliability, security and performance.
Providing expert technical leadership, advice and operational oversight to support both day‑to‑day services and project delivery.
Managing and mentoring a multi‑skilled development team, fostering agile ways of working and a culture of continuous improvement.
Partnering with stakeholders across the University to translate highly technical concepts into clear, practical solutions that enhance UQ’s digital presence.
This is a full‑time (100%), fixed-term position through to September 2027 at HEW Level 8.
A strong combination of relevant experience and/or education or training in web development or software engineering.
Demonstrated experience developing front‑end code and working collaboratively within development teams.
Proven capability in object‑oriented programming, particularly with Drupal 8+ and PHP, Symfony or similar frameworks.
Experience providing technical leadership, problem‑solving complex issues and guiding teams to effective solutions.
Well‑developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters to non‑technical audiences.
Strong organisational skills, self‑motivation and a methodical approach to managing competing priorities.
Desirable experience with Drupal 10/11, enterprise‑scale CMS platforms, accessibility standards, SEO best practice, APIs, testing frameworks, and modern development tools and environments.
