Job Description

The Manager-Waste Management Program is responsible for leading the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization’s waste management program. This role ensures full compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements while supporting organizational safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. This role serves as a subject matter expert and primary operational authority for waste management activities and represents the organization in regulatory and accreditation matters. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or a related field required. Minimum three years of experience in management of waste and environmental regulatory compliance and managing environmental health and safety programs with professional and technical staff required. Experience in Environmental Health, Fire and Life Safety or Emergency Management preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards for Waste Management, Life Safety, Emergency Management, Hazardous Waste and Environmental Safety related to the environment of care as well as other regulatory agency requirements. Able to read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access; operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to safety operate equipment and instruments related to duties. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Licensures and Certifications: Current Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification for emergency response is required. Certification as Industrial Hygiene, Hazardous Materials Manager, Safety Professional, or Registration as Professional Engineer or Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Emergency Management preferred. Valid Driver's License required at time of hire.
