UNIVERSITY ENGAGEMENT OFFICE

The University Engagement Office (UEO) is established with the primary objective of enhancing the University’s engagement with stakeholders of the community and strengthening its brand. The Office takes charge of engaging both internal and external stakeholders, managing university-wide events and marketing initiatives, and handling Chinese Mainland affairs.

UEO is seeking high-calibre professionals for the following position. The appointees will be assigned specific responsibilities in either event management and marketing, or Chinese Mainland affairs, depending on their professional backgrounds and expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the formulation, execution, and review of the University’s comprehensive strategies and initiatives for engagement, communication, marketing, and branding;
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement University-wide branding, marketing and engagement events and programmes, as well as related campaigns in the Chinese Mainland;
  • Manage the planning and production of promotional materials, including publications and souvenirs;
  • Explore and foster academic exchanges and collaborations with Chinese Mainland counterparts, including government departments, universities, and industries, through networks and university alliances;
  • Support the supervision of HKBU’s branch offices in the Chinese Mainland to ensure effective operation, regulatory compliance, and alignment with strategic goals;
  • Assist in the preparation, negotiation, and review of agreements between the University and its partner institutions;
  • Connect and collaborate closely with internal Faculties/Departments/Offices to stay informed of the University’s latest news for the development of engagement initiatives and programmes;
  • Perform any other duties as assigned; and
  • Occasional travel to the Chinese Mainland may be required.

Requirements:

  • A recognised degree in Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations, or a related discipline;
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of 4 years in a supervisory role; experience in the tertiary education sector would be an advantage;
  • Have a profound understanding of Chinese Mainland context and culture as well as strong networks and connections with Chinese Mainland governments, universities, media and industries;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese, and proficiency in Putonghua is mandatory;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, management, organisational and writing skills;
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as an effective team player;
  • Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, and meet tight deadlines; and
  • Proficient computer skills.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit a written test and an interview.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review and mutual agreement.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
