The I.T. leader shares power, puts the needs of the employees first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible. I.T. leadership inverts the norm, which puts the individual contributor as a main priority. Instead of the people working to serve the leader, the leader exists to serve the people. These positions have varying and progressive degrees of detail vs strategic pursuits. The percentage of time spent doing day-to-day tasks will decrease as the individual progresses through leadership. By the time the leader is in a senior role, they will be more focused on strategy execution than the actual individual tasks. The I.T. leader supports a number of I.T. staff, Supervisors and Managers depending on the role and rank within the I.T. organization.

Specialization

The Manager, Telecommunications and Field Services support is responsible for the implementation and operations of the voice and video communication infrastructure in support of the organization's core business. The manager in this role is also responsible for providing end user remote desktop support and work with IT infrastructure and Security to continually improve the customer's computing experience as well as protecting the organization from security threats.

Responsibilities:

The I.T. Manager reports directly to an I.T. Director or Sr. Manager. The Manager will have expertise in one or more functional areas providing day-to-day and strategic direction to a number of Supervisors or individual contributors. The Manager's responsibility is to ensure that the tasks assigned get accomplished within the time frame and specification requested. The Manager ensures that all team activities are monitored and measured and provides feedback to the team on agreed-upon performance success criteria. A successful candidate will understand the value of speaking up respectfully when they disagree and listening to their employees and business customer's concerns. Scope of management includes at least four (4) direct reports and no more than ten (10) except under special circumstances.

  • To the People they support

    • Ensures their direct reports understand the purpose and vision of the organization and the team's connection to purpose

    • Ensures the team fully understands all I.T. initiatives and their relationship to the goals of the organization.

    • Ensures that all Supervisors and individual contributors are engaged and productive.

    • Performs annual performance evaluations ensuring that all Supervisors and individual contributors are aware of challenges before review.

    • Encourages participation in employee surveys and action plans.

    • Monitors and measures team workloads helping with prioritization and escalation as needed.

    • Coaches all Supervisors and individual contributors on career development and Individual Development Plans.

    • Facilitates team daily or weekly team standups to discuss activities and determine barriers.

    • Champions the teams they support.

  • To the Product(s) they support

    • Reports system, process, and/or portfolio performance weekly to the I.T. Director or Sr. Manager.

    • Proactively Identifies and potential system challenges and works with the team to reduce errors and improve efficiency.

    • Fully supports and uses the established Change Management process.

    • Ensures all incidents and problems get entered into the I.T. Service Management platform, with no exceptions.

  • To the Leadership / Business they support

    • Works to understand and support the I.T. Directors, CIO, and Business Leadership in organizational and technology goals.

    • Speaks up respectfully when they are in disagreement with leadership.

    • Ensures team adherence to service level agreements.

    • Ensures teams compliance with Service Management Standards.

    • Escalates issues as they arise.

Required Experience and Professional Skills

  • Experience

    • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Supervisor or individual contributor in the functional areas that they will be supporting

    • Proven record of performance management and a thorough understanding of how to measure, monitor, and prioritize the activities of a team

    • Past participation in I.T. Strategic planning efforts and ability to make connection for their team between strategic plans and the associated tactical implementation activities

  • Professional Skills

    • Demonstrated successful operational and people leadership capabilities

    • Demonstrated experience in holding teams accountable

Required Education and Certifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or equivalent work experience required, Master's preferred.

  • Certifications: as needed for the systems or functions they support

Additional Information:

Salary: $137,000 - $182,000 Annual
