The Opportunity
We’re seeking a Manager, Tax Advisory to join our Tax team and play a key role in supporting investment activity across global markets. This role sits at the heart of the organisation, providing specialist tax advice on complex domestic and international investment structures while safeguarding the Fund’s sovereign status, reputation and long term outcomes.
Reporting to the Director, Tax Advisory, you will provide expert transactional and advisory tax support across a broad range of asset classes. You’ll work closely with Investment, Legal and broader corporate teams, as well as external advisers, to ensure tax efficiency, compliance transparency and sound risk management are embedded into the Fund’s investment activities.
This role also contributes to income tax compliance obligations and supports tax governance across the Future Fund and other funds managed by the Board of Guardians.
Key Responsibilities
As a Manager, Tax Advisory, your responsibilities will include;
Provide specialist tax advice and due diligence on proposed investment structures across all asset classes
Review and benchmark investment structures to ensure tax efficiency, transparency and compliance with applicable Australian and international tax laws
Minimise foreign tax leakage and assess tax-related reputational risks, including the inclusion of appropriate tax risk mitigation protections in legal documentation
Coordinate and review external tax advice where required, working closely with internal stakeholders and advisers
Act as an internal subject matter expert on sovereign immunity principles and their application to complex global investments
Monitor and advise on global tax developments and emerging issues relevant to the Fund’s investment activities
Support income tax compliance and filing obligations across the Fund’s entities, including engagement and management of external tax agents
Contribute to tax governance, controls and process improvements in line with the Board’s Tax Risk Management Policy
Partner with Investment, Legal and broader corporate teams to provide clear, practical tax advice
Deliver specific projects as directed by the Director, Tax Advisory
About You
We’re looking for candidates with strong experience in corporate or transactional tax, coupled with sound judgement and the ability to operate confidently in a high stakes, fast moving environment.
You will have:
A tertiary qualification in commerce, law or business (CA or postgraduate tax/investment qualifications well regarded)
Significant experience in a taxation service line or corporate tax function, operating at manager level or equivalent
Demonstrated experience advising on global private markets transactions (fund investments, co investments, joint ventures or M&A)
Exposure to international tax jurisdictions (including the US, UK or EU), with experience in sovereign wealth fund or BEPS related matters highly regarded
Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to provide clear, practical advice
