The position reports into the North American Controller of KBHC, with strong dotted line responsibility to the Global Tax Director located in Munich Germany. The position has two direct reports and has dotted line support from the various subsidiary associates responsible for tax matters. The position is responsible for the Knorr Bremse North American tax compliance including Federal consolidated return, direct and indirect state, local, and international tax compliance, year-end provision, income tax audits, tax notices, and analysis of new tax legislation.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee compliance and reporting to allow for accurate and timely preparation and filing of all tax returns (corporate, individual, flow-through) and business filings, for Canada, Mexico and USA
  • Develop tax strategies, analyze new tax laws, and advise on the tax impact of business decisions (e.g., M&A, expansions) for the North American Group.
  • Supervise, mentor, and delegate tasks to junior tax staff, ensuring quality control.
  • Manage tax audits, coordinate with tax agencies, and prepare responses and documentation.
  • Stay current on evolving tax legislation. Research and analyze the findings and apply it to solve complex tax issues.
  • Review financial statements and budgets for tax-related risks and opportunities.

Knowledge:

  • Possesses extensive knowledge of accounting principles and audit procedures.
  • Knowledge of integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Knowledge of ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes
  • Knowledge of IFRS
  • Knowledge of Tax related software use – OneSource a plus.

Experience:

  • 10-15 years in tax accounting
  • Supervisory experience
  • IFRS Knowledge preferred, SAP experience a plus
  • Experience in a similar capacity operating within North America
  • Manufacturing experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in an ERP environment is highly desirable.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical, communication, and management skills; proficiency in tax software. Excellent level of analytical and problem solving with a focus on error prevention.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact across multiple locations and functions within the corporate environment, and at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated success maintaining and enhancing compliance and process controls.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills, with ability to work in matrix environment with parent companies for completion of work and projects.
  • Ability to analyze business issues, develop corrective actions and follow through to completion.
  • Total commitment to team philosophy, a team player in every respect.
  • Exceptional attention to detail; focus on error prevention.
  • Ability to lead with a Pro-Active and Change Agent attribute.
  • Total flexibility showing an ability to work with diverse personalities and support multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Excel and an ERP system. SAP a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Advanced degree, Specialization in Tax preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred
