
Key Responsibilities *
Sustainability Strategy
Drive the development of CIMB’s medium- and long-term sustainability strategies and plans in collaboration with the Regional Head of Sustainability Strategy and Stakeholder Engagement and the Chief Sustainability Officer, aligning with the CIMB’s Corporate strategy, Board, and EXCO guidance. This includes translating strategic ambition into medium- and long-term sustainability plans; ensuring these plans are responsive to dynamic external factors, industry trends, and regulatory developments; and that they are robustly supported by structured implementation roadmaps, internal stakeholder buy-in, and consistent monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
Drive CIMB's annual sustainability planning, prioritisation, and target setting processes across all regions and Group entities, ensuring these are aligned to CIMB’s Corporate strategy and informed by strategic business priorities, key stakeholder needs and expectations, and external developments.
Drive the enterprise-wide execution of a complex and high-impact portfolio of strategic sustainability initiatives, ensuring disciplined project delivery, and interdepartmental collaboration across Group Sustainability, business units, enablers, and regional teams. This includes oversight of programme governance and reporting to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment with Group objectives and regulatory expectations.
Manage the governance of Group-wide sustainability decision-making through Board-level and management-level committees, including the Group Sustainability Council, Board Group Sustainability Committee, Group Transformation Committee and Group EXCO, driving accountability and alignment at the highest levels.
Serve as CIMB’s senior sustainability strategist by continuously monitoring and ensuring appropriate responses to material sustainability and sustainable finance developments across ASEAN and global markets, including regulatory trends, peer benchmarks, and market expectations.
Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy
Manage and provide oversight for CIMB’s regional stakeholder engagement and advocacy agenda, ensuring it strengthens the Group’s sustainability ambitions and market leadership in responsible finance. This includes designing and continuously refining a Group-wide stakeholder engagement strategy that is data-informed, risk-aware, and aligned with evolving stakeholder expectations, sustainability priorities, and regulatory requirements.
Drive high-level stakeholder mapping and relationship management with key influencers including regulators, institutional investors, NGOs, peer banks, media, and strategic partners, to help CIMB build and maintain trusted and strategic relationships.
Drive CIMB’s external sustainability positioning by overseeing the development and execution of a compelling, credible narrative across all public-facing channels (e.g. social media, investor engagements, events, press engagements), ensuring alignment with CIMB’s Sustainability strategy and commitments, and CIMB's Corporate strategy. This includes leading execution of flagship stakeholder engagement initiatives such as The Cooler Earth and Sustainability Investor Day, leveraging these to strengthen CIMB’s reputation and influence at high-profile regional and global platforms. Oversee and respond to high-priority stakeholder requests, including Sustainability rating assessments, materiality exercises, investor queries, and other disclosure-related requests.
Support governance of the end-to-end sustainability disclosure lifecycle, including annual reporting, regulatory compliance (e.g. IFRS S1/S2, TCFD, TNFD), and performance improvement and tracking against Sustainability benchmarks (e.g. S&P Global, CDP, Sustainalytics).
Drive internal sustainability transformation through strategic internal communications and change management initiatives aimed at embedding a purpose-driven culture rooted in CIMB’s core purpose of "advancing customers and society. Support the design and delivery of sustainability capacity-building programmes—including the CIMB Sustainability Academy—in close collaboration with CIMB’s Learning & Development team, to drive mindset shifts, behavioural change, and sustainability integration across all levels and functions. Ensure that internal messaging and engagement consistently reinforce this purpose in the daily actions, decisions, and culture of all CIMB employees, in alignment with the Group’s sustainability roadmap.
Drive the governance frameworks to uphold the integrity, transparency, and consistency of CIMB’s Sustainability communications and public positioning. This includes implementing message governance protocols across all stakeholder touchpoints, mitigating reputational and greenwashing risks, and ensuring alignment with Group values. Develop mechanisms to assess and monitor the consistency between CIMB’s Sustainability policy positions and those of its external partners, and recommend actions to maintain credibility, integrity, and trust.
Key Dimension of Impact *
Drive delivery of CIMB’s headline sustainability commitments, including achieving operational Net Zero (Scope 1 & 2) by 2030, Group-wide Net Zero GHG emissions by 2050, and the mobilisation of RM300 billion in Green, Social, Sustainable Impact Products and Services (GSSIPS) by 2030.
Maintain and strengthen CIMB’s standing as a sustainability leader in ASEAN, as measured by top-tier rankings in key global indices (e.g. S&P Global CSA, Sustainalytics, WWF SUSBA), and enhance investor perception of CIMB’s long-term sustainability credibility and performance.
Ensure timely, accurate and transparent sustainability disclosures in full compliance with evolving regulatory standards (e.g. IFRS S1/S2, TCFD).
Deliver high-quality disclosures and communications that strengthen brand, reputation, and stakeholder confidence—including among investors—while meeting regulatory expectations and share-of-voice targets. Safeguard credibility through robust governance of Sustainability messaging, greenwashing risk management, and alignment between internal practices and external advocacy.
Embed a purpose-driven culture centred on “advancing customers and society” across all functions, with measurable improvement in staff sustainability capabilities, leadership alignment, and daily decision-making.

Qualifications
(Basic Degree/Diploma etc)
At least a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised institution, preferably financial or sustainability-related
Professional Qualification and/or Regulatory, Licensing requirements
Not required, but a diploma or certificate in related to Environmental or Social issues would be beneficial
Relevant Work Experience
More than 6 years relevant working experience, preferably with at least 3 years in a project management and/or Sustainability role. Banking experience is a plus.
